Wand Updates!

Wands on GK now have stats to help mages out a little bit. They also come with an exclusive casting time to balance the stats. Some wands will be better than other wands to help give rare wands some value.

The wand system will continue to be improved over time.

That is zormite wand (Casting time: 2.799999952)

How about some rounding, man.

Yes, in the archetype it is actually 2.8 but there are some problems with floats in the mudlib, will hopefully be fixed soon.

It doesn't seem to work with hotkeyed spells (in that "test" appears instead of the countdown bar). Also, even when /cast is used, the countdown doesn't seem to be noticeably different between wands with different casting speeds. I took a video of me casting Icestorm with both my fastest wand (Valentines Day Wand - Casting time of 1.649999976) and my slowest (Zormite Wand - Casting time of 2.799999952) and both spells took 28 video frames to cast (including the countdown bar), with the countdown bar lasting 10 frames in both cases.

Could happen if you switch between wands using hotkeys, will have to look at it.

I probably have one of the rarest wands. Stats are (Con+1) (Wis-1) (Int-3) Casting Time 2.5

Isn't that kinda bad for a rare wand?+1 stat -4 stat.

Shrimps has a +1 with no negatives? Or is the casting time really that different. Then again staff of Variety has casting time of 1.7 and it isn't rare at all.

Heart Wand
It's rarer than Wand of Lightning Arrows but pales in comparison when it comes to stats.
I think mine just actually went down in value instead of up LOL.
I still love it though cause it's pretty ;(

There's a difference between complaining and bringing forth problems with an update. Tig is the kind of person who takes criticism well and I'm sure he's taking notes of all the bugs so they can be fixed. This is a good thing. Just being 'content' that there is finally an update is how Graal ended up the way it is now.

Yes, Fenix, I agree. Your wand which is REALLY hard to get, I mean damn near impossible, does have ****ty stats, almost everything is - and it was -15 cold or something. It had + resistance of confusion or something which is useless. It does need to have better stats.

I dunno... rare != powerful. Ya the whole negative things are bad but I don't think it should have above average stats either. Rare things should be rare because there are not many in circulation, not because they are better than the rest.

Rare items should have more value than the more common items right?
Doesn't seem to be the case here. Although I am sure Tig has some meaning behind this. (I hope)
Maybe i misunderstood Tig's first post about giving rarer wands better stats since they were rarer. :O

In general rare items are better than common items, but the association isn't so absolute that the rarest item is the best item and the quality of items falls from there in exact proportion to the decline in rarity. For example, Thunder Sword and Talefung are both better than common swords, but Thunder Sword is a bit better than Talefung because you can get a higher Ogma blessing than you can a Leuc blessing, even though Talefung is rarer. The new wand stats aren't precisely proportional to rarity, but they follow the same sort of rough association that swords do.

Yeah i get it, it just sucks that my once "rare" wand has depreciated in value.
It's still pretty though

I have to disagree, Talefung with a Govannon blessing (which has no resistance possibilities atm) gives you the chance to poison and also use weapon magic 24/7. There are 2 Talefungs and 1 Angelblade, their ability to poison + have another blessing makes them the best weapons in the game. But with the wands, the difficulty to find them should be factored into the stats. For items such as like Valentine's Wands or w/e arent necessarily difficult to find in the manner of them dropping from a monster, but in the fact that its just an old item. I think theres a difference.

There are a lot more items with high fire resist, though. With Brigid's shield on and a PMoP, I get close to 60 fire resist without breaking a sweat. Add a level 107 fire protect scroll on top of that and it gets to be around 75. I can't usually get anywhere near that with cold because there are no items with a substantial amount of cold resist on them. From my observations, here's what the server looks like overall...

Most common high resistances:

1. Physical (It's on pretty much all armor.)
2. Fire (PMoP, Govannon, Brigid's Shield, Capes, Fire Resist Spell, Demon Stone, Demon Shield)
3. Magic (Elronds, RDA / BDA, Fragments, Adamant Rings, Magic Resist Spell, Balor)
4. Cold (Bile, Ogma, Ice Bracers, Ice Shield, Cold Resist Spell, Forgotten Frost, Immortal Frost)
5. Lightning (Gale, Chainmail of Electricity, Brigid's Shield, Lightning Resist Spell, Leucetious)
6. Poison (Large Pirate Belt, Glok Belt, Poison Resist Spell, Bile)
7. Drain (Bile, Brigid)
8. Death (Bile, Brigid)
9. Life Stealing (Bile, Brigid)
10. Fear (Bile, Diancecht, Balor)
11. Confusion (Aengus, Diancecht)
12. Blinding (Diancecht)
13. Depletion (Brigid)
14. Paralyzation (Rings)
15. Slow (Rings)

(Near the end, it kind of gets hard to determine which ones are used the least.)

Bile resists cold too. With Bile Holy Posession + Protection from Cold, you can get pretty high cold resist before you even put on any equipment.

But like I said, it doesn't matter either way.

Thanks for the correction. I'll re-rank cold on my list, too.

What doesn't matter? Resists? Resists certainly matter. You're right about usefulness not being tied to rarity, but usefulness and resists, bonuses, and so forth definitely go hand-in-hand.

Anyways, I think that's what's most important- how difficult it is to get these items.
There is magic resist on a lot of smaller items too, like Arcane Shield, Ring of Magic, etc. I was just listing off the items that usually give you more points for your resistances.

It doesn't matter on things like that, because everyone who actually pks wear RoWs and no one wears Arcane Shields.

I doubt everyone who pk's wears rows.
And they still matter, because in the end, they are still obtainable items that help resist certain elements.

They're obtainable, but they're hardly used. Just because they exist doesn't mean they need to be accounted for, especially if no one uses it.

Shields such as Arcane and Moon decrease the magic resistance with RoWs equipped rather than increase the resistance.

They're hardly used because their only main perk is speed +1 and resist magic +5, which hardly helps.
