I attempted doing all the quest with downsider and enjoyed them but when it came to Zol's Pub I ended up logging off during the quest because in my opinion there was no sense of direction and those rats were wayy too annoying. I enjoy a challenge and long draw out quest with direction. I did however enjoy everything prior to this quest.

That must be one gaping toilet to fall into.

Anyways, it wasn't a bad quest, and better than most other graal quests I've seen, but I agree with the others in saying it was a bit confusing. For example, the 2nd to last room before you get to the boss -- really no indication that you had to kill all the rats in the level to get the key since the rats are in every level lol. The rat boss was also more of a chore/annoyance than a challenge.

I don't know what y'all are talking about, I went through the quest just fine without any direction.

Same. I jumped down the hole where you push the block down while the water was not drained, and it caused me to be unable to get back up without dying and walking back.

We didn't need to be spoon fed quests back in the real Classic days, what makes it a requirement now? New players (esp from this generation) these days are pretty stupid but not that stupid. The whole point of questing, at least on Graal, was to explore and find it yourself. The way Classic is now completely breaks the you are the player feeling. Our characters talk to NPCs and we don't even get dialogue input. We then blindly have to follow.

What if I don't want to fight baddies? What if I'm a lizardon rawr :3? What if I don't care about Zol's pub quest right now? Can I do others? Or will that break the storyline? Wat?

How?
Until the point where you can lower the water level which actually happens to be at the opposite end of the level you begin from it is pretty much linear unless you decide to take a right turn in the level above the first level having obtained a small key, but even then you cannot progress further as you require the Boss Key.

Once the water level is lowered you can immediately see the 2 new doors you can enter and one of these takes you through levels you'd have already been in, the other would also take you into a level you'd have seen already had you decided to climb down a ladder in the 2nd level but obviously you're blocked by a gate that has to be opened from within that level.

It's not really the direction you have to figure out, it's really just a matter of figuring out the combination of things you must do in order to obtain the Boss Key.
You're a new player. You get tossed in. Ok I'm in some green stuff I guess ill climb that ladder looking thin-O**** WHAT WAS THAT? IS THAT A RAT? IT JUST HIT ME HOW THE HELL DOES IT HURT ITS AS SMALL AS MY FOOT. This door seems 2 be locked I mean it surely wont open if i touch it OH SWEET IT WAS UNLOCKED COOL WHY WAS THERE EVEN A LOCKED DOOR LOOKING THING TO BEGIN WITH. Sweet room-i guess ill just go up cuz its fun. Oh look a block and some red carpet on the floor. Guess ill just keep moving righ-****ING RAT IN THE WAY GOD DAMNIT. Work my way down nice nice fighting mice is heroic. Cool donuts!! Can i eat them? wats dis lever do ok ill push it or someting sweet the green stuff is going down. Ill just go up n-WTF I THOUGHT I KILLED THIS FML.

That should sum up my experience x2.

It was pretty easy but confused me at the same time. It's not that it was impossibly difficult, it was just annoying and a chore. It wasn't fun. If people aren't having fun they won't bother continuing.

What Boss?
The boss where you run around in circles until it gets tired then hit it from behind.

What Zol's brother says is actually meant to be a hint to keep away from it rather than attempt to hackNslash it directly where attempting to do so would be exposing you to its big sharp teeth rather that its furry body, slashing it from behind however (and yes the tail is its designated weak spot) means that it is unguarded, and it's actually fairly easy to beat once you figure out how to damage it and this isn't exactly a situation you wouldn't naturally encounter through trial and error either.
It sounds more like "DON'T TRY TO BE A HERO, LOOK WHAT IT DID TO ME". Being Graal I expect to side-step dodge its bite and slash its body like a real champ. Not run around in circles until it gets tired to slash its tail.

p.s slashing it's face would prob do more damage than slashing its tail. My character has a shield, he wants to use it bro.

I know right? If you just look at what your doing you can obviously see what your suppose to do. Quests like that are more fun anyways because it separates the noobs from the actual "players".

And isn't that what a game always wants to do with the first quest?

There is actually a way to allow you to climb up the ladder in the lower floor room, just requires you to trigger the switch by carrying a pot over it.

Not everything is going to revolve around a storyline, it is part of our plans to include separate content you can find yourself, still though you're acting as if your own ideals apply to every single person that is going to log on the server, from what I've noticed most newbies that ignore the mainstream content and wander around aimlessly simply just log off, those who follow through it tend to persevere and that's kindof the point, provide new players with a sense of direction and purpose so that they know what to do, don't have to wonder around through a completely alien overworld and likely get lost, and more likely stay online long enough to potentially start interacting with whatever community there is, it's not like we're expecting Quests to be something that keep players occupied constantly.

I thought you were supposed to push a block on it somehow. Thanks for the help though.

Its not officially the first quest, but the first dungeon/boss. I mean look at Zelda from N64 that was a great game but you really had no guidance.

So I guess that fairy was just my imagination.. Anyway, there's something in game design called signposting. It's subtle hints to tell you what to do, unobtrusive ones. This quest has some, but I didn't realize that they were intimating something about what I should do until I actualy did it. That's a complete signposting fail.

How many keys are we suppose to find in this quest? I've only got the big rat one for the boss room, though it seems that a normal key is required to go to the other room.. Laura had no problem with this quest, she was helping me until this key problem happened. She doesn't remember getting two keys..
