Stefan, Why not add FTP to RC?

I think i've come up with a solution to the "hacking" FTP Problem, why don't you add an FTP Program to RC? This way you could give certain members rights to only access certain folders on FTP if they have the right to access it anyways. (E.G- LAT could only put things in levels folder) And you could also set permission for people to delete things too. No one but you would need to know the FTP Password. Well, tell me what you guys think, I think it would solve a lot of problems with PWs.

Well it may work, but i'm sure there still a problem somewhere, but i can't get my finger on the bad point... Anyway, if it could make the PWs more secure it's already a good improvement.

Yes, and what happens when the password for so and so's account (lets say all access) gets leaked, and then they delete the serverfiles that way?

I agree with that totally, unixmad has a better idea by restricting the IP.If someone has a password to ftp but not from the right IP then access will be denied to it,this I think will solve all the password issues with FTP.But I have not heard from him lately on this plan he mention to me as of yet.

Who or how will this IP list be controlled by? If Stefan and Unixmad, its a bad idea because it is hard enough to get a Playerworld's FTP change passed..

Torankusu, you do know you have to have your IP class on the list to use RC, right?

I guess they will ,and I do know of the problems involved in that. But then again this crap with the deleting of PW levels has to be stopped somehow. The plan may not be perfect but then again what is?
If the IP can be controled at the RC level which is also tied into the FTP then maybe it can be accomplished that way and quick adjustments may also be done that way.At least thats my idea.

I don't like the idea with this FTP RC thing. If you don't want people getting into your FTP, just limit to what staff members you can trust to use it right.

Yes we are planning to add some ftp thing to RC or NPC control,
but more as additional thing (for uploading/downloading
levels), a full-featured ftp program would take a lot of
work, don't know

Hmmm, Yes. Maybe for just like RC FTP, for making Guild Tags Quicker, but downloading/uploading levels, you need an FTP Program, like we do today...

FTP is actually one of the easiest things to program, granted it's not as complex as WS_FTP

You can do that with a regular FTP hosting program, at least a good quality one.

I agree it would take alot of work, but then again protection of all Player Worlds would be worth it would it not?For some of us this may only be a hobby but for others like yourself ,it is a business and if it were me I would want to protect my investment any way I could. Then again this is only my opinion.
