Just a simple thought, im not going to go into great depth (although i easily could) or anything on it, just point something out and make a suggestion.
I'm sure the old boys from Graal2001 remember the map off the back of their hand, i know i do. And i'm sure they all know the position of the kingdoms, what their levels were like, and all the routes into those levels. I know i do.
On 2k1, players and specifically kingdom members were forced together for a lot of the time, and there were specific places for kingdom activity. There was just enough (if not just a tad too little) space for fighting and roleplaying and stuff.
I was thinking to myself the other day about why the kingdoms are such a flop, and i came upon yet another possible reason...that reason is how much space the kingdoms have. Think about it, guys, they have whole freaking islands to themselves...and what do these islands have on them?
NOTHING. I mean think about all the hastle of jsut getting to your kingdoms island just to visit your house or something, you've either got to steal a boat, wait for the ferry, or take the dungeon. And when you're attacking another kingdom, well, you're truly screwed then. Know how damned hard it is just to get your army onto the right boats and headed in the right direction, then actually get them there without them getting stuck or warped back to the start or something?
It is hard.
My proposition, as a whole, is a very simple one. We create a new island, a much larger one by main, possibly.
Upon this island we build new kingdom castles, one on each corner or w/e. The kingdoms will then have a certain amount of space around their castle which they can develope however they like. For example, they can build moats, towns, walls, fields for farming(these fields will be the only places on the islands where crops will grow

). This way, the kingdom will be able to decide for itself what kind of thing it will be. For example, it could be the farming dominant kingdom, or the trade dominant one, or the heavily fortified militant one. Some special system will need to be worked out for this but im not going to bother doing it right now.
Also, this island would have other special things. For example, it would have just one or two mines dotted around randomly. Other things would include a forest area and lumbermill, a port (aka shipbuilding place), etc etc etc. Now, these features which are all pretty much essential for kingdom life (OR SHOULD BE

) are CONQUERABLE. That's right. A kingdom can take posession of, say, the mines and the port, and other kingdoms will have to pay to use it, or take it over. (kingdoms will probably only be allowed two features at any time, some system would have to be devised, i dunno).
See, if the kingdoms are forced together, with a proper kingdom system such as warring, trading, kingdom crafting and farming and professions etc, then there will be a much stronger kingdom environment on GK.
Also with the mines and farms and stuff on the kingdom island, they would give out SPECIAL RESOURCES which are essential for building things like moats, fortifications, cannons, kingdom-specific armour/weaponry/items, castle walls, etc. systems would have to change and new ones would have to be made, but it would be for the best
Anyway, whatever, i know that it is a great idea, but i just cant be bothered to type it all up and structure/explain it properly because i know nothing will ever be done about it.
