Although you can't really compare a tree to a monkey, because trees are made of like loads of little leaves. In my extremely limited experience, the need for detail can sometimes replace the need for shading and such. Tiny tree leaves are detailed, a spanky monkey with a banana isn't, really =x

Also, no zen, keep it at 15 or else i will perish
Using few colors isn't that hard, it can give a better result in the end than a lot of colors But you might wave goodbye to colored outlines and stick to the black though ;O

Black outlines are gross unless used properly. What are you talking about?

Black outlines can infact improve an image if used propperly, and i'm talking about that you would have to use a black outline if you have a lot of difrent colored items on your image, you would use too many colors on the outlines to be able to shade it propperly. And black outlines somehow "focus" the veiw on that area, it and also darken the colors close to the black pixels, black outlines isn't really that bad, they can ruin your shading though ;O

Edit: look at scott's monkey's face, if he had used a colored outline at the areas he's using a black, the face would have become "blured", and it would hard to tell if the jaw is a part of the body or infront of it...
