Adjustable tileset window

In the level editor would it be possible to add one of those little sliding things to the spot where the editor window meets the tileset window? You know, one that lets you adjust the proportion of each window... With one of those double sided arrows... @_@ <-->

Look in the Screenshot, I hope someone understands what I mean. (outlined in RED )


This would help because often I have the tiles I need to use right in the editor window, and that tilesetwindow is taking away valuable space.

Kaimetsu will become famous soon enough
Then you can get somebody else to script it for you :-p

When the new default editor is scripted, there'll probably be all sorts of new features etc. Stefan won't be the only one who can script updates anymore

I guess that's true. The one think i dislike (highly) about this new editor concept, is the fact that you need to be online to edit levels. (from what i can tell anyway) This is very frustrating. What if I wish to catch up on some work, but there's no available internet connection? For instance, if I'm on a long car ride with a laptop?

It's a valid concern. At least artists and, to a lesser degree, scripters can work on their stuff regardless of online status.

Of course, unless the .nw format changes sometime soon, you'll still be able to produce levels with the old client.

Yes, but that's no reason to force us to be online to work on levels. Another problem arises from this. Once it is absolutly nessecary to be online to work on levels while using GO official tools, people are going to start writing custom programs... Then some jerk is going to put up one that steals passwords, etc... To me, this aspect of V 3.0 can only cause problems.

All I said was that you probably won't need to be online to work on levels.

Hmm... You know what, I honestly dont remember what I was thinking about 5 minutes ago... But anyway, I see no reason as to why this 'online editing' thing is being implemented.

You could edit offline into a file then when you get home or to an internet connection you would run the graal editor, then do something with the 3rd party program to transfer the information over to the official editor... Don't ask me how this is done, as i've already said, scripting isn't my strong point.

Oh, yes, that could be done. But even if the pre-3.0 client can't be used, I'm sure there'd be a standard alternative written by a trustworthy player.

If Stefan doesn't include an offline editor in the GO package, do you think he's going to want someone passing a 3rd party version around, trustworthy or not? How am I supposed to know who is trustworthy or not?

Perhaps I am blind... I see no benifit in doing this... Can you?

I'm not sure of the laws regarding this stuff. Would it actually be illegal?

And there are alternatives. It could be checked over by Stefan and then made official, for example.

It could be... Im trying to think of an analogy, but nothing is coming to mind...

And if he's just going to make someone's 3rdparty software official in the end, why not just cut out the part in the GO editor that requires online-ness?

Um, there's no such part. It requires you to be online because it's scripted into the Graal client, and the Graal client doesn't have an offline mode anymore.

Hmm... You couldn't allow the client to emulate being logged onto a server or something? Or would that cause probelms, or be complicated?

If there will be no offline mode anymore, then it would be wise for people to save the .pack file that's downloaded now on 2.21 so that they can still edit levels offline when 3.1 is released. That is, assuming the .nw format stays the same, as you (Kaimetsu) mentioned.

Well, now you're moving away from taking-stuff-out and into putting-specially-coded-stuff-in. Stefan doesn't want to do it, both because it would take a lot of effort and because he doesn't want the offline mode to exist for security reasons.

Are you aware of how the last most popular trainer worked? It allowed people to edit levels while online. Changes that were made were sent to other players (...well... mostly on Classic, they couldn't do a whole lot with an NPC Server I imagine), so it allowed them to do quite a bit. I think he was referring to Stefan not wanting to have that possibility anymore, thus not having an offline editor programmed into the same exe that's used to play online.

So there's going to be a completely different client just for level editing?
