I like the point idea. Maybe you could give people staff toys, only make them harmless and useless in some areas (like survivor island.) I'd love to be a PM monster :O

The point idea is good. That way, you're not getting money for the events, so every event held isn't bringing more money to players. You get points, that get you special items. That way people still win, and the economy still survives.

Like I've said with the gralats, if you had a points system, make a STANDARD. With 2k1's past, it will basically go like this:

first week of events: prize = 1 event coin
second week of events: prize = 2 event coins
two months later: prize = 20 event coins

If you don't stay consistent, you're just asking to ruin the server.
