Sueable Offence?

Is it possible to sue some-one for making a server which has the same idea as a server yet not levels, gfx or NPCs look the same?

If no tell Chrisz =/

Millenium has 2 Owners (Me and Crystal).
I live in Britain and Crystal lives in America, Chrisz lives in Scotland. For a start I don't think Chrisz could afford the money to get a lawyer in America, and what evidence does he have? Especially if the reason is "Copywrite". And i thought u needed a document to say u rnt allowed to Copywrite something. Not like we did or nething.

And Chrisz, if this "threat" was just to try and scare us, u may have scared our Co-Owner (and maybe ET Admin) into quitting, but unless i get a certain e-mail confirming it being possible, then u wont scare me or Crystal from getting our server up. Good try none-the-less.

It's only legal as far as I can see if they copyrighted the idea itself.

And if HE sues you, doesn't mean he goes over THERE. YOU get 'summoned' to court, if someone makes an alligation against you so you'd come here.

ALSO may I add it costs $200+ a month to copyright a 500pg website, and so copyrighting all of them images and levels would cost too much.

You cannot copyright something until it is published on a site or onto graal when accepted as a Playerworld. The site host gets so much money for setting up your account and stuff, then so much for bandwith you use for your site, then the rest is probably for the copyright titles. Graal does the same thing, only when you submit a PW project to them, and they accept it, it is then theres, and you just manage it....

No, Chrisz won't sue you, he have no right.

You can't copyright a graal playerworld since it does not belong to you when it's online.

But everyone will take it as a Era-Rip, so you lost this time...

And i were talking to Angel when she was revewing it, she showed me some screens... and you kinda... stole Era's tileset...

But thats my thaughts.

As far as I know, everything that gets published on Graal, becomes property of Graal. (Except for things that are already under copyright, but that's why they get removed. ) So in essence, he really doesn't have the right to sue another playerworld owner. Of course, I could be wrong, this is just what I've gathered.

Stupid little children will not sue over online games. That's horribly pathetic. I cannot believe they'd spend their monatery and personal resources to fight a stupid battle that will end up making absolutely no difference at all

I wish idiots like this Chrisz would grow up.

A court of law shouldn't be necessary.

Ever heard of the Playerworld Administration?

If a project actually gets up and it contains plagiarized material, you contact Angel, not your lawyer. For one thing, Angel does her work pro bono.

You can't copyright a name, a name gets trademarked.

People just get confused because they see stuff like "Copyright Nintendo" or something, but the copyright is to the company not the name.

When you see the name of something on a product it will usually have a small "TM" near it, and sometimes "R" which I think is for registered trademark? I'm not sure on that one... heheh. I'm no lawyer either. ;P

Doesn't Chrisz manage Era? Did he quit or is he just working on something on the side while he works on Era?

Maybe I'm behind the times, but didn't Era take graphics from another server? I mean, wouldn't sueing someone for doing the same thing you did to someone else be, I dunno, hyprocritical?

I'm probably just not caught up on all the news, though.

I'd like to point out were talking IDEAS here... graal only covered copywrites(copywrites are AUTOMATIC).. if he patented his idea then its cool... he can take the guy to court over it... he still owns the idea

I looked into patenting something before and it is very expensive. I forget the website but patents.gov seems right. Ofcourse, this is for US citizens I beleive.

According to federal copyright law anything you create that is orignal is immediatly copyrighted to you. Now from my understanding graal takes ownership of such... now if graal doesnt make you sign a contract or agreement then legally your under no obligations and the stuff you submit to them is still yours.

internet agreements (you need to literally sign a paper) are not sufficient for any courts that i am aware of. But then again i dont know how they go about making such a agreement with all the playerworld owners.

I dont know if anybody has mentioned this (I didnt look through all the posts) but copyrighting is free.

What?

If you have created something then it is copyrighted. You dont need to send your work off or anything like that.
Did you create source code? A website? Graphics? If you did then it is already copyrighted to you.
However, unless Im mistaken, there is something in the Graal terms that says that anything you submit to Graal becomes their property. So if you submit something to Graal then you legally give up that copyright. If somebody then steals it you cannot do anything about it because you have gave the copyright to Graal. Graal, however, could do something about it. But why would they? Its not like it matters to them, especially if whats been stolen is being used to help them.

Im not sure about copyrighting ideas though, and Im pretty sure its not automatic like everything else.

Come on, grow up, honestly. While it IS nice to have copyrights, it isn't necessary as long as you can prove you created it. But no one would be sued over this. I don't think everything uploaded becomes "Graalonline Property" but I know that servers claim it as theirs if it is ever uploaded. But who cares? It's pointless, no one is sueing, plus it would be good to explain to a judge "They stole our idea!".

While it is true, what you create becomes copyrighted, you have to have sufficient proof that what you created is yours. In court, if someone steals your creation, you need either a federal copyright, or a copy of the document sealed in an envelope mailed to yourself. The post office will postmark the envelope and as long as the date is before the offender's "creation date" if he has "proof", then you win. This is a simple method of copyrighting and holds up in court, but I think federal copyrights have greater advantages. Haven't read up on this in a while.

Red face

No offence intended to the Americans, but to a select few that believe the

Concept of “Suing” is just or a normal every day thing do to, then please follow

This simple instruction

Step 1: Get a firm grip of your head.

Step 2: Gently remove your head from your ass.

Step 3: Read the points I am making in why you can Sue (also read every one else

Points)

1. Graal is copyrighted by “Linux Cyberjoueurs” as we all know. In other words all the coding of the levels and game engine is there propriety.

( I the eyes of the law , all rights a reserved to unixmad and Stefan ,which mean you would never go to court or be able to clam right to the level sense you only designed the levels with the aid of there software and would be using there coding)

2. It’s not against the law in any country or even any continent to copy some one else’s idea. (But it is against the law to steal coding etc………..)

3. It’s not normal or right in anyway to sue over a dumb little reason , and beside the point you goys cant sue each other sense you are both under legal age, unless your parents are dumb enough to get involved .

4. Point four hmmm, I don’t see the point in making a point 4 sense everyone else made loads of other points goods already. ( I like to thank all the other people that made alot of good points LoL:-) )

Here's the general idea:

If someone off graal has plagiarized against you, report to Unixmad. This is especially the case if your server is, has been, or has ever attempted to be onoone

If someone on graal has plagiarized your stuff, contact Angel.
