I've tried.. and failed

It's not so much that I didn't want to do something for graal.

Maybe it was because I was working for Brandon, I quickly lost enthusiasm, building levels for people that generally piss me off, and disrespect me.

That was actually the reason that I quit close on a year ago.. Why should I go out of my way, to provide an environment for people to play on, that just ***** and piss me off. Making a house for yourself or some friends. That is fun, that is the only form of fun I derive from making levels now.

Whilst it is very cliche, youd on't know what you're missing until it's gone. Applies in this case better than anything else I can think of at this time, while this could easily be a ranting on from some disgruntled crap level maker, I do believe it is very relevant, and very very important.

We already have this "graal academy" someone mentioned earlier...its called, a playerworld! You get hired as a LAT with limited skills (you need to have talent before you can even start to learn how to do it) Then you have your Levels Admin, you asst Levels Admin, you Levels Captain, and whoever else in your staff who are good at levels teaching this person how to better themself. Making a level is very similar to making a piece of art, it is art technically....you need to have some sort of an art sense before you can do it...you should be able to draw somewhat, and you should be able to recognize whats pleasing to the eye and whats not. If you don't have this, or what should be called "talent" then you have no chance of self betterment. Once you realize you have this, you can learn from those with more experience and become experienced yourself.

So as you can see, that's alot of work, and it takes a long time...and you have to have talent...this is why every graal player who happens to accidentally hit F4 in the tutorial can't throw together a masterpiece 2k1 level.

I don't actually understand what you mean by a 2K1 masterpiece.

Are you trying to say 2K1 is a masterpiece, or just gerneally referring to the Graal version.

And, I have almost no artistic talent to speak of, but I was considered above average. Whether that is totally undue praise or not is irrelevant. It takes persistence. Also upon my travels over the servers I have noticed a serious lack in interior design skills. People nowaday believe that the exterior makes a good server.

I am thoroughly dissapointed with the pathetic level of workmanship displayed in most interior levels.. I believe they are just as important as the exterior levels. To put this into a confectionary context, it's comparable with someone giving you a mint chocolate, and you eat it. Only to find that some smartass has siphoned out the mint, and replaced it with excrements.

i dont mean 2k1 is a masterpiece, but compared to the average PW the levels are of a higher quality and have the best people working on them. But i do believe you need some artistic ability...because even if you know all the tiles and know how they connect, you cant make the level look good unless you are creative and artistic.

Show me a nice interior of yours, you seem to speak as if you are an expert on them yourself.

I make no claim to being an expert.. I am not, one does not have to be an expert to comment on something, you just have to know. If I read a book on the total deaths of cancer patients put on radiation treatment.. These being too high, I could comment on this. But not actually being an expert myself.

I can look and see, what else do I need. I can tell when something does not fit, and it suits my purposes if you don't know who I am. Makes it all the more fun, and infinitely more irritating. Both of which are reasons for posting on this topic. Is it so hard to look and see for yourself?, I'm sure you'd share my opinion.

I'd rather just have you think I couldn't make a level if my life depended on it.

:P

thomasward your english is very nice =)

but anyway, yes i agree that there are a lack of GOOD level builders....all the good level builders ether quit, are too lazy to make anything, or have been building levels for such a long time, it doesnt appeal to them anymore (MOre or less like me)

I've trained a few good ones, in a way.
And I've helped so many LATs on AIM, at least those people are improving.
