Nothing.
Unless GS changed them.
I remember helping him test them a bit on ToT, once.
They pretty much do whatever he says, but even that is limited to certain things.
They can march in formation behind him, attack you, etc.
They're basically just "advanced" NPCs. They aren't really "helpers"..
I'd say they are there simply as a test to see if an updated version of them works, possibly for use on 2k2, and if not, adding them to 2k1.
