The story line revolves around telling of a Legend, basically starts at the beginning of time with two forces struggling, you then discover more truths (and lies) about the Legend. Depending on which choice of which information you use adjust the gameplay and story line for players, you get to have some uniqueness. After you create a character you can play through two different different stories (Hero's Path or Villian's path) eventually once you go through both a new story opens (Legendary Path) which both story lines intermingle, both paths are different dimension's of yourself which eventually converge at the beginning of the Legendary path, and then the usual, all hell breaks loose, world will be destroyed and it's up to you to save it.

Basically, you start from being told a Legend, and depending on how you play, you finish the Legend.
