Legends

Some of you may have notice Varia not being up on the hosted list anymore. You could say it was a successful attempt to get to hosted. I realized what it takes to get to hosted, but now my eyes are on the classic list. I'm not going to release too many details about the story and such, but take this as a small preview. I will have Legends opened to the public sometime this weekend.

Server Type : Modified Classic
Controls : Relatively same to default Graal. Eventually will have a custom key mapping system to allow players to rearrange how to they play to be most comfortable. Currently uses arrow keys/mouse to move and ASDF to interact with the world. There is a beta stage core system built in, on the start menu go to options to toggle it on/off.
Story : Your uncles tells you the Legend of the beginning. Now, you must finish it and make your own Legend!

Notes : Here's some screen shots of game play as well as a simple block drawing of the over world. legends_worldblockmap.png is a fireworks PNG file, so if you have fireworks you can play with the layers in there otherwise I have just attached some different layers of it. Yellow borders is an area border. Red borders are uncompleted gmaps/levels border. Green is completed levels/gmap, with inside levels and NPCs and such.

Please comment and criticize. ;]

Looks bland, don't like the levels they seem linear and over-detailed in some cases. A nice tileset and less grass detail would probably fix this.

I'll take that into consideration and work on it.

The one on the buttons is sort of tolerable for a game - if gaudy.

The other font is the sort of thing you use as a header on school papers.

I wish developers here would be better rip-offs. Look at the type of game you'd like to emulate. The best of the genre. What sort of font do they use? Certainly not bolded Arial or Comic Sans.

At least change the grass so you can pretend you have a custom tileset.

Why is a custom tileset needed? Servers can be perfectly fun and playable without a custom tileset.

Can't say I like the level style, specifically this:
http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...1&d=1297389700
and when I say specifically, I mean the grass above the cliffing. It looks horrible, stick with the default layout for cliffing.

Also, the HUD layout is pretty bad in my opinion. Why are the ASDF keys in the same corner as the health? Having it shoved all in one corner, and especially have the ASDF offset from the side is pretty bad. Try to keep the HUD balanced visually. Also, buff up the margin some. I hate when the HUD is shoved right along the edge of the screen.

I'm currently using Alanden and Arial. So you're saying change the Arial? Also, were complimenting or complaining about my server? I can't tell...

I don't want a custom tileset, I love the classic one. I want a classic server with classic tileset.. Although mine is modfied for layers.

I'm not doing either, I'm giving you a suggestion on how to find a suitable font.

Why not use the font from the players options?

$pref::graal::defaultfontname

cbk1994 02-11-2011 07:23 AM

The GuiBlue looks quite odd next to the rest of the UI. Why are the hearts so small while the ASDF keys are giant?

I use that for a few things but the UI I prefer to have control over.

GuiBlue is just temp for right now. The player gets 2 rows of ten hearts, the buttons are the size of the two rows, plus they're easier to press for the touch screen interface I have.
