Intro Preview

Edit - new video at:

Title says it all, once the battle scene is complete (I should also note that it won't start as abruptly as it appears in the video) there will still be another scene or 2 left though not as long to watch or make as well as some text inbetween scenes.

  • I guess 400 years wouldn't suffice? If modern civilization can't maintain relevant goals for more than 100 years then doesn't 10,000 sounds incredulous?
  • They come out for too long. We get that it's a huge army, we don't need a family-guy scene.
  • Oh my lord you show that long-ass video for each side (good / evil).
  • Epic battle scene.
  • Holy **** a parachute.

The storyline actually revolves around civilisation more or less destroying itself all that time ago, by 10,000 years the old but more advanced technology that you end up questing for would be lost/forgotten.

With the length of the intro though it's possible we will cut some things down if the whole thing takes too long.

Beginning was alright, don't really like how the castles looked and the marching time should be cut down a bit.
I really dislike like the fighting scene, it came out corny to me and I don't think there should of been any comedy added. (WTF @ parachute?)
Also, why did the war take place?
2.5/5 for me

I dunno man, that fighting scene probably wasn't INTENDED to be corny... But it was so corny it was pretty awesome, like Napoleon Dynamite.

You should try to hint to that more in the opening dialogue, I thought it was confusing too.

The 2nd part of the intro when made is meant to provide a background + imediate motive for the player, the relevance this has to the first part of the intro would appear small at first but begin to build as the game progresses.

Any chance in removing the parachute? Maybe have the guy sneak up from the cliff above or come from under a bush?

I'm saying it needs to be added to the dialogue so that it's more clear.

If someone hurled a bomb from the cliff edge it'd be equally badass to the parachute.

This is handled by our cutscene controls, and already done within the first part of the intro (minus the hearts, will remove these too), this just hasn't been applied to the 2nd part because it is still being worked on, possible that I could have hidden it (even though i'm not using the Graal Clients capture) but didn't think it would be that big of a deal for a preview.

I presumed it was a literal preview, he probably did too.

So far we haven't really given our overall opinion. The objective was to propose constructive suggestions in areas which could be fixed. This way it improves... Just giving a general opinion isn't much different from insulting him.

I liked the video overall.

You don't need 15 seconds per the "forces of" good/evil clips, and i do suppose the parachute is a bit off technology wise, so maybe a bush is more accurate.

Otherwise i think it's pretty solid, I just wish players had fighting moves like that LOL.

One thing that bothers me the most is the fighting scene. They march out as a big mass, yet they fight like 5 at the time on the battlegrounds. I was expecting a fight more like in 300. That fighting scene was corny and felt forced. I have no problem with the first part except it should be shortened down a bit.

I think it would be cool to instead have the two video's of the armies marching out more of a fade in/fade out type of them. Instead of having a really long video (I thought a bit too long), have it fade from black to the one army, back to black, fade into the other army, back to black, fade in to the war, fade out, etc. Also, not sure if you intend to, but keep the same music throughout.

Seeing the the two kingdoms march out for like 15 seconds each is the only thing I don't like, otherwise good job.

I noticed that to, and once i did, it kinda bothered me as well. I loved the fight's themselves though, but maybe somehow make it appear that there are 100's more soldiers around to give the "large" battle appearance

Also, considering how they are fighting at the border (notice grass tiles in the battlefield)
it would look nice if there was either a border wall or some banners.

The emoticons made it sort of stupid, then the guy with the parachute came in...

I hope you lose the Graal sound effects, especially footsteps for marching. It should sound like marching.

I liked it overall, but as people have said the marching scenes at the beginning were way too long.

I also wish I could shoot arrows diagonally and have a parachute.

It's pretty clear people think the first part is too long, will cut this down.

I don't really see the problem with using a parachute, it's supposed to be something unexpected by the baddy soldiers, it doesn't really make sense to have the character appearing on the ground from behind them, so why not in the air?
The server isn't supposed to be strictly medieval, and again this fits with more advanced technology being lost after an ancient apocalypse.
It is also one method I was hoping to use to spawn baddies themself in certain situations, in the past they'd randomly appear out of nowhere sometimes.

Regarding the amount of soldiers compared to the amount in the battle scene, I had intended for text to make out that this was one of many battles, the first scene refers to it as a "war" which does not necessarily mean one big battle.

If you are going to keep the crappy parachute at least get an updated graphic for it. And why wouldn't it make sense for someone to come out from under the bush? (If you want to get technical, then you might as well remove hiding under the bush for players) or jumping down from the cliff above them and planting a bomb? IMO, I think you are only adding the parachute in this scene for self nostalgic reasons. It's cool, but not that cool.

edit: why complain about parachute it's cute but ya maybe remove the laugh emoticon.

I said that it doesn't make sense to be appearing from "behind" the baddies while on the ground, having a bush appear from that side would contradict the entry point for the good soldiers, atleast parachuting down provides a good explanation for it, the only way a bush could work is if it stops and starts and never moves while within eyesight of the baddies, the maneuvering would take up more time, jumping down a cliff could work but it's hardly a creative strategy.

Interested to see how Zorbis, Lizardons and Gnomes fit in with this. I assume they will come next in the introduction.

Honestly, it looks robotic and choppy. The choreography is pretty laughable, and the whole thing is really unconvincing. Ambitious, maybe, and effort probably went into it... but it's really not helping in this case.

It looks like we have been challenged Dusty. We have to do better choreography with graal.

Shouldn't be a problem.
