Otherwise, if the server is subject to the regular playerworld rules, it'd have to be completed before submitted to review, and therefore include little to none player content.

It wouldn't really be the server's fault for no player submitted control. All servers really have to be in GS2 and people have been begging for a editor compatible with gs2 for years. If you mean houses and such people can/still submit those. (not sure about on this new ow). However, if you mean miniquests and things like that, eh you make a point but again, that wouldn't be the server's fault.

The most important thing to take away from Massokre's three year old quote is that they've been working on these revisions to custom movement for almost as long as the NPC server has been up. When are we going to break from this cycle? We need someone to step in, fire the whole administration, and put someone in place who'll put actual playable content before this rediculous need for 'limitless' customization. Whatever happened to "if it works, don't try and fix it"?

While I know this isn't going to stop the nonstop onslaught of references to posts made in the past, I'm reminding you all that what you eventually see is what you will get. I fully expect there to be some complaints as none of you can actually even come to a unified conclusion which version of Classic you deem to be the best. For this reason Classic will remain out of the public spotlight until the work is completed to a point that the server is playable again.

Classic should revert to whatever version we were using before the switch to NPC server. Consider everything that has happened as non canon, and pick up like we've got the NPC Server for the first time. Convert chucks of the original overworld, move towards quests, then events.

I'm willing to bet in the time it takes for them to create and perfect all these "custom but default systems" you could have nearly the entirely overworld converted and/or rescripted (not including quests, and more complicated scripts).

As for the my thoughts on the plan, it seems like deja vu from 2004.
Remake the server from something that is 'unusable' and build from the ground up.

Only now it's 2009. There is no strong dev team to do any sort of project like this. There are barely as scripters as compared to 2004. The drive to script is lower, the management has since went inactive.

Sounds like you're trying to do the same thing 5 years later with a lot less than what you had 5 years previously, and with more inactivity.

However, it could be simple to keep the current overworld and fill it up with content, while phasing out the bad custom systems one by one in a progressive nature.(Though I'd like to keep the nickname system the most).

There's a less possible route to failure, why are you going for the definite failure?

Now I have skipped everything on this thread except for Thors initial first post. I logged onto classic and I felt like I went back in time a few years. Nothing but the few cities and the rectangular gmap.

The plan seems similar as well, build up from there. Well we did that didn't we? And now look where we are. See what happen now by shutting down classic and stripping it, people left and found servers that actually have what they are looking for. Those players like those servers now. So you must ask yourself, can you do us one better than every other server that a classic player has migrated to? Because honestly after all these months and Storms number of useless responses, I don't think you can.

Keeping the map the way it is would be a bad idea, you can fill it up with content but i bet players still become incredibly bored. Adventure games call for exploration, you need the map to be big. And if you plan on working towards a working economy , can you make it unlike every other server economy? Classics never really had one, and I honestly don't think thats what it needs. You guys are still not listening, instead of all those plans in your first post thor, it should only be...

A. Create the structure for classic.
Create the well thought out story line, make the 7+ quests + side quests for it. Create the items for those quests. Create the towns for the quests and then other small towns to enhance the map. Then move onto other playable content. Mini games, secret items, secret stuff in general! Then move into your economy plan if you wish. Then create that professional event system you speak of, but honestly I bet if you do that its going to turn out like UNs. GC was fine the way it was years ago, before it started trying to be "advanced." Then after you are done, kinks are all worked out, and given development staff all haven't quit and Thor is still around, because thats the expected outcome of all this, THEN you should release classic again and see what happens. I for one still want quests for classic, I honestly don't give a crap about the economy, i got a real one to worry about. The only way I could bother with a classic economy is if i had to pay Gralats to do a quest or buy an item to do a quest or something like that.

You're right about that, yes,
i'm not saying the server wasn't fun,
but the server was out-dated and buggy in 2004,
ofcourse it then got the NPC server which meant it had to be wiped,
there's been a few major client upgrades since then,
i'm sure the gservers work differently now aswell.

Whether or not it's a simple case of being able to upload the old levels has been argued to death,
if it were that simple it would have been done in the first place,
but it is simply not compatible,
and converting every single bit of it isn't feasable.

Graal has changed and so must Classic. We cannot just bring back GTA and expect players to stay. Remaking Classic will give use the chance to make sure we can do everything without any problems, and make sure we can have players.
