While this idea is good for balance, it almost eliminates potential content. For example, if the items are completely new/seperate items, they could have an "excuse" to add a bunch of other stuff, like maybe "kingdom-quests" required to obtain these items. The only solution I'd see to make the two ideas work together would be, you finish the quests (or whatever extra system/content would be set in place), and as a prize are then given the option to "trade" your equipment for the newer stuff.
And adding some new content to go with this would definitly help GK. Maybe we can finally have monsters on kingdom islands, then have some rare-monster drops that can be used to craft these kingdom items?
