Do an exp cap first. If that doesn't work then go for a time cap.

Why an exp cap? Most of them fail to even learn how to level effectively let alone gain a high enough level for this "cap" (Unless it's around the 5-10 mark which is just cruel imo).

I suggest allowing them access to everything (including trading tables), except kingdom islands and joining a kingdom, and trials can play freely for a period of 28-30 days which, once passed, will not allow that IP from accessing GK until a subscription is purchased.

But seriously, GK right now doesn't look appealing to newbies, what with the economic issues, levelling problems, item obtainability and lack of help to newbies early on (Although the FAQ team are obviously on that).

It should be pretty low. Probably at around whatever they'd be likely to level to within the time limit they would be under if there was going to be a time cap.

Levelling isn't even the main attraction to a new player, mainly because they don't understand what they are gaining from levelling a skill like phys. When it says to them "You can handle x weapon upgrades" They are totally clueless, and i'm sure as most of them are used to the common stat distribution which most rpg's use, there needs to be alot more explanation happening.

I like this idea.
Maybe let them get to level 2, 2000 exp, and then give them the message when they kill things "To continue to gain experience, please upgrade your account."

When I say cap, I mean a cap on overall exp, not a different cap on each skill. Trials are pretty dedicated to increasing their overall level. Cap it and deny them access to kingdom islands.

I think there was a problem with trials spamming everything, especially trade table rooms?

I guess these will bring old problems back, too.

A beta server with same game mechanics, less items and newbie island only would be cool for them.
