Does a playerworld need to be "Hosted" before it can be "Classic"?

Simple question, does a playerworld need to be on the "Hosted" tab before it can be moved to "Classic" (if that). I'm considdering making a very "Zelda-esque" server, based on the fact that no servers seem to quite hit that mark these days and it would be pointless having a server "Hosted" for everyone to do quests before it's released.

Well, we haven't really got a server that would appeal to Zelda fans right now, and I truely believe it would bring boatloads of people in. If I were to make a server, I'd pay for advertisements, but I really don't want to "manage" right now and put up with the stuff they have to; I just like to develop and put my ideas into motion.

I've always wanted that Zelda styled server to play, but servers these days don't provide that that anymore since Classic died (beyond what seems the point of no return), hence me wanting to make one.

zelda was only great for 1 player action. I wouldnt think it would fit a mmorpg. And most classic servers have the zelda characterisitc, at least some of the items.

True Graals gameplay is NOTHING like Zeldas, Zelda is what made me get Graal. I mean dont get me wrong im not saying Graal has made me unhappy or anything. I rember a while ago getting on random servers like a few years back there was a server that had the Zelda overworld on it, from GBA but it was hacked by Kim Jong Ill or whatever his name was and had child porno all over it. After that it sorta vanished.

I'm not making a "Zelda" server, but I'd planned the gameplay very much in traditional Zelda vein, meaning there are lots of baddies to kill, bosses to defeat, puzzles to solve, people to help and items to acquire.

I didn't considder the release of Twilight Princess when targeting players, but you never know, they might be on a buzz of playing that and get excited when they see they can play with their friends online.

I think this is a great idea, too many playerworlds these days are all about hack and slash/leveling up and thats about it. The gameplay dries up pretty quickly. If you could create a dynamic playerworld with constantly evolving quests and puzzles, it could hold the attention of players for a long time.

As for what Ryu said about Twilight Princess, its pretty irrelevant. As Thrash said this is an MMORPG not a single player console game, and it seems he misread your post and thought your playerworld would actually be Zelda, as opposed to a world filled with things for a player to actually do and work towards.

I would really love to help out on this.

Expanding on what I wrote;

I checked out a couple of little things that Rufus has quickly made, and they are simple, but effective and nice. It's the little things that count that people have missed out on, or forgotten about. Think about why you liked Zelda : LTTP, and get back to me.

I'm not sure if there is a playerbase for this type of server these days actually.

Haha so true @ Crono.

Rufus look at trashy Zodiac, they have a good strong playerbase, and UN. Once something new comes out, players leave other servers which they were bored of.

There have been many times when I wished I could make a classic Zelda-like server. It would be so much easier than rescripting the whole Graal system.

... And then I remembered how much scripting baddies would suck and gave it up.

Go for the hosted tab, test stuff out, get an Events/GP Team/FAQ team established, allow gold players on, etc.

Then once you reach Classic status, you can have a playerworld reset so everyone who finished quests has to do them again.

It might work, but you'll have to for sure give Globals the ability to get past such blockades for their reviews.

EDIT:
Actually, it may be better to go with the reset. Having players go through the quests can be for your benefit, making sure there are no glaring glitches that haven't been caught, etc.

I think the idea of a Zelda-esque server is awesome! I don't think it should go the four-swords route per se (had enough of that with the whole g2k1 thing minus your pet of course) but I remember some Zelda-like quests on Graal the Adventure that was actually very well done. (Even the castle quest on Classic is a nice touch, quite similiar to Water Temple of OoT.) As a matter of fact, with a knowledge of some of the levels of Twilight Princess you could incorporate that into part of the design to get even more players to join.

If such a server existed that you were talking about Rufus it may even encourage me to upgrade my acct again =P After all that's most likely how most of us ended up on Graal anyway, googling for Zelda games. Just don't go too far to get Nintendo angry at you like they were at Stefan =PPP

If you're brushed up on GS2 you should come apply on Delt Dev. I remember your quest on classic, and for its time it was incredible, I'm sure you could create some crazy good stuff with the functions available in GS2.

I offered him a server with no tryout so we could develop his baddies ;p

although i dont have nearly enough time to be useful except late at night.

What really makes a server is its community, bottom line.

Word, tis a shame. The new overworld is going to have some classic Graal aspects to it but not many. If you change your mind ya know where to find me.

Ibonic quit Graal today, therefore I'm unsure about what will happen with the project now, I don't want to take the manager lead and I'm not sure if I trust anyone else as much as I did him.

We'll see.

We'll see.
That's too bad. Rufus was showing me some progress over AIM and it actually looked cool.

I've been following the progress of the server, it has loads of potential. I'd really hate to see it go to waste

Inverness is a jewel in the roughInverness is a jewel in the rough
If you want cooperative multiplayer for that, limiting each dungeon or whatever to 4 people would probably be ideal, of course the server is going to have more than 4 people, so you're going to have to create instances of the same special areas on the server. Or else you get overcrowded in once place.
Thats something i'd love to see though, 20 people charging through same dungeon in Zelda. It would be memorable.
