Bring back Alt+5

Alt+5 was great. Who's idea was it to get rid of it?

I am not sure that Graal 3 and up ever supported it.

Alt+1 took a picture. Alt+5 saved it as a .nw (or before then, .graal) file which let you do things like quickly get a sprite of a certain player that you could use in other levels.

Yeah, I liked alt 5 for figuring out certain tile configurations. It could be used to do harder things like cliffing, finding the img name for an img (offline use only), etc.
Also, zooming went a layer below seteffect, so basically you could remove effects by zooming.

Alt + 1 -> Snapshot of whole level, without npcs.
Alt + 2 -> Snapshot of what YOU see on your screen.
Alt + 5 -> Saves level without all NPC's, into a .nw file.
Alt + 8 / 9 -> For zooming.

Which is a good thing. There's no reason why someone should be able to monopolize a given head name/number.

It didn't give NPC scripts except for some light effects. I'd like to see some actual evidence that Alt+5 was causing widespread level theft, and even if it was, the fact that so many servers are using their own tilesets nowadays pretty much eliminates this problem.

Do you honsetly know what your talking about mind you; You will most likely delete this post before it hits the light of day because omg im going against darlene; Honestly you cant really steal the level considering each server basically uses new tilesets.. and beyond that howlong will the level be uploaded before it causes an stink and everyone gets pissed and the stolent content gets removed?

Also its not like npcs can be stolen, all that was displayed was the level .nw dump and the players too as dummy npcs. NPCs really are the core of graal now anyone can look at john does level and rip it off without using alt + 5 so really nothing would change if the guy REALLY wants to steal it he will; Bringing ALT + 5 wont change anything at all and would be a cool feature to see again.

Edit: In effect really all it is like taking a picture you can modify which is very cool.. Its like builtin photoshop for graal levels?

Yea, I didn't think it gave the scripts.
When I managed NP, there were a lot of stolen levels used as tryouts. Whether they got them from alt+5 or from a staff job, I do not know.
Also, don't the graphics from each server load into your webgifs folder still?

O.o instead of just a png or something maybe a limited 15-20second video clip can be created and encoded to a free mpeg format just a idea to bounce off of Stefan is the graal save feature can't be returned.

Ya ALT+5 becomoing a video encoder would bea fresher and cooler idea then just a graal save of the level which i dubt may even be possible and will open some security holes lol. Because it means theirs a method to PULL the level itself down perhaps a person would abuse this and find a method to pull the actual level so i vote this/

Scrap the graal level save idea for ALT+5; Make it a video capturer feature for graal

If by "pull the level itself down" you mean "download the level", you download the level the first time you step into it, and it's hypothetically possible to extract all details of the level (possibly including NPC scripts) from the .code files in your weblevels folder.

I remember there was a glitch I used on UN way back.. I dont remember exactly what it was, but it was something like press Alt+5, script any NPC you could want, then press F8 and re-connect to the server you were on, and the NPC would appear online

These files are encrypted, and you'd have to go out of your way to open these levels. Sure it is possible, but VERY unlikely.

ALT+5 would be a simple way for one person to steal a level from another server. Sure there are custom tilesets, but usually these are just variations of the default tileset, and the structure for most levels would not change, unless you modified the tileset to the extent that the tiles are completely different (and if you were willing to go that far, you're probably running a quality server). Custom tilesets aren't much of a deterent for a theif.

So to sum this up, ALT+5 is a bad idea.
