I know, but you're not going to get anything through to Zurkiba. He's chosen to dislike any idea I have without thinking about it.

I think about it like this... every player is going to be roleplaying whatever character they create. They will play the role of that character and immerse themselves into the world through normal gameplay, and most won't even be aware that they are roleplaying. Then when situations come up where they have to sort of get creative, the influential roleplaying environment will make it easy for them. That is what I'm trying to achieve. You can't just divide the hardcore RPers and the normal players and then say "okay non-RPers, if you'd like to RP, you have to come over to our side and we will either spit on you and kick you out, or we will treat you like you're ignorant and try to teach you if you're willing to learn". With the old system, there was no inbetween. You either "roleplayed" or you didn't.

I mean how easy is it to play the role of a guy heading off to a town to buy some clothing, who will then go off and do a job for some money, so that he can go to market and pick up some tools and things from other people there? That's a whole roleplaying scenario there and people will be doing that regardless. I know that it doesn't seem that exciting, but that's what the kingdoms will be for. They will provide players with a chance to immerse themselves into something even more, if they choose to do so.

All I'm trying to achieve with my server as far as roleplaying goes, is to make an environment that encourages roleplay and attempts to immerse the player into the world. That's all. I believe an npc king can do that more effectively than a real person because the npc king does not sway from his duty and isn't going to be like "well guys, my girlfriend just dumped me today so I don't really feel like doing anything". Talk about killing the experience.

This is a nice theory on how people will role play because the environment will encourage it. Now let's play this scene out in graal.

You're going to have that in ANY game though. Even games that are total RP. Even if there are punishments for not roleplaying. There is no way around that. All I'm saying is that an environment that encourages roleplaying might at least help to prevent people from acting like that.

Yea I know, that idea just popped in my head and I thought it was so funny I decided to post it.

Absolutely, this is true! But There are no bounds to what a player-ran King can do. That's not true of a NPC King, which is severely limited by the script written for it.

Ideally, "iconic" characters in the complex plotline of Bomy Island would be NPCs which would be ran by humans (staff members designated for this task) during important events which further the story. They would have some preprogrammed things that they can do for that 90% of the time when they aren't doing anything really important, but for that 10% of the time when they are directly involved in things, they should be more than just a few lines of GScript.

You're right, I've already thought about that. An NPC King does indeed have limitations as it is bound to a script... however the script can be updated and modified at any time by me or someone else in charge of handling kingdoms. This is why I feel an NPC king can work. Because they are mostly there for "iconic" purposes, and to keep things balanced and not disrupt the immersive environment.

I intended to set up something to allow myself (or some staff) to speak "through" the kings. Either for announcing special events, or making them seem more lifelike, or whatever. The kings are only as limited as I make them to be. I have every intention of making them as unique and interesting as possible, as well as giving them believability and enough different behavior to not make it seem automated or anything.

So basically you're going to be running every kingdom as you see fit and you plan on using these "NPC Kings" as your puppets?
