ATI is not bad, they are usually more silent. But ATI often has problems with drivers, especially on Linux. NVidia drivers are better I think, but you still need to install the good driver or games or videos will be slow. Graal uses a lot of 3D functionality for drawing light effects and such.
Actully its not the hardware on linux its the user if you READ their manuals with the 3D fix it says you must goto runlevel3 then rewrite the driver cfg file so your OS reconizes it and knows what to do with it then just restart and 3d works fine, Also ATI has better pipelines, and easier to overclock.
The old drivers and outdated CPU should not have made a older game like graal lagg like it did. Consider this once, I've seen a 66 mhz pc actually run with graal on it.
Oh, by the way, I got my new PC working with 64 bit in windows.
More on that in a bit.

I've got an Abit NF7-M motherboard, which came with integraded GeForce2 Chipset, and I've had no problem playing games like Halo, with all the addons and a high framerate. > I love pushing my computer to the total limits....
Probably, it's because it takes less time for a chipset to "react" to commands....
