Unhappy Home Network Trouble...

Well I guess ill start here on trying to slove my problem....So.

Im trying to figure out why my home cable network seems to run slower than a friends of mine. We live in the same area and all but it seems that he runs online games soomther than I do.

I run a 2.9ghz Pentium 4 with a X850pro
He runs a AMD [email protected] with a X800XT

Im begining to think that I may be time to get a new cable modem since not only does it run slow I get a huge amount of lag anytimes someone does downloading off limewire or somthing on another computer connected to the network.

So do I need a new able modem or is there a way I can decrease to lag I recieve that is caused by my home cable network?

On a network, to be more specific and most likely in your situation a wireless network upload and download speeds are shared. If someone were to be running limewire on their computer in your network, the upload/download speed of your computers connection would decrease. Thus, slowing data coming from and going to the graal server of the playerworld that you are playing on.

It is possible that the cable modem is not working properly and is therefore not receiving and sending data at the rate it should be. However, with the information you have provided one might infer that the probability of a disfunctional cable modem is equivalent to another issue you may be having.

In some cases, this is not the case and the problem could be a software and, or hardware issue. If the information I have provided above has not helped you, consider providing more information.

Well, one thing i've realised is the different cable types.

Im on a old cable type of networking and its pretty slow. Try changing your network to one which uses the same type of cables that modems use. But try using a router, little pricey but it'll do.
