I agree, it's definitely not something we'll work on anytime soon, but alas it might be added later on.

Server reopened. Sorry for the delay, had some major lack of time, and a bit of slacking, before I was able to implement things.

I've made my own rule system based on AD&D edition 2, with a couple of major tweaks by myself. Only the bases have actually been added at this point, but the way I scripted it makes it **** easy to add more stuff.

Anyways, logon and check it out - feedback is always nice.


Oh and also, note that while we're under development, your character(s) will probably be deleted quite frequently due to adding some more stuff to character creation etc.

Next on agenda: finishing AND releasing the combat system, now that the stat system is finally done! *cheers*

So please, if you can aid us, log on the server and stay for as long as you can, and hopefully that'll give us the player count we need to debug it.

The combat system is really awesome
other than the one little positioning bug i noticed at the first duel, it seems almost perfect to me
now work more on the content and u have urself an awesome server with the most original(working) combat system in the history of graal :P

I am releasing a beta of the combat system. Right now it deals random damage between 0 and 9 whenever you attack, when I get back in a couple of hours I will implement the damage formula, THAC0 and AC.

Please, try it out, and post your suggestions etc. If you find a bug, please post about it, would be great if you could explain how it occurs.


To duel someone, say:

/duel <charactername>

For example "/duel Ziro". You have to wait for the other player to accept the duel, but if it isn't accepted within 60 seconds, it will time out and cancel the duel request.

Implemented THAC0 and AC and whatever effects it have on combat, as well as the famous Critical Hit/Miss system (AD&D <3).

However, damage formula isn't fully completed, still think about how to do that one. It'll be based on AD&D edition 2, but I also want to add my own twist too it. Tough job indeed...

Now, if only I could get the rest of the staff required to make this server a success...

Why don't you just copy an existing system straight off? It saves a lot of trouble and it's probably already tested for balance.

Because it really helps to have clear documentation. Before writing a system, it's useful to know exactly what's expected of it. When documentation exists, the programmer can read about the general idea as well as any atypical uses it will be required to face. It prevents unnecessary refactorings later on.

I think you've missed the point of me trying to make a Final Fantasy wannabe fighting system combined with AD&D rules. In AD&D, characters have up to 170ish max health at higher levels, while in most Final Fantasy's it go up to 9999. Tweaking is bound to happen.

There's a freely available ruleset based on the Final Fantasy series which isn't afraid of large numbers like AD&D is.
