That is well possible, I do it all the time, with or without summons to controle. Just click somewhere on your screen and drag from there. It usually works for me in the upper-left corner, sometimes though it's a different region. But rest assured, it works.

The mouse-dragging is actually a bug.
Basically, when you click, it reads it as if the spell menu is open, but it actually isn't. And when you drag, it reads it as if you're dragging a spell-icon, but you actually aren't. You see, you have to click where a spell actually is located to allow the click-dragging to work. For me it's a piece of cake, since I have enough spells to fill up the whole open-spell list and then some.

I like this idea. I use summons very often, being a follower of Brigid, and I think this would be an excellent addition.

The thing with actually becoming the avatar is nice too, though that could be hard to script.

I'd prefer to become the avatar, but .. I'm for either. At any rate, the current control system for the summons is very lacking .. I hate how they only move in four directions.
