Depends on how you play. When I used to play by myself and keep to myself, I did just fine surviving on bmode. Sure, every now and then there'd be a PKer, I'd get killed, and get real frusterated. But when you start meeting everyone, that's when you start getting PKed. And if you lay low and keep to yourself, you tend to not get very far anyways (in terms of power-playing, but of course I used to have plenty of fun on GK without being at a competitive level). So actually, that extra EXP does make a difference for people like that. (ignore the fact that people like me and you can start GK from scratch and do pretty well with lone-play... we've learned the game.)

So it depends on your style really. Most likely you want to be high level, have rare items, be popular in a kingdom, and therefore likely end up with enemies as well. But if you just like to RP, enjoy the different types of gameplay GK has to "offer", and "hang out" with your own private group of friends, then you'll likely be safe on bmode except for the few occassions a PKer will get to you, and likely leave you alone afterward unless you further provoke him (and it will be a him).
