I've Been Bored...

Recently, I've thought a bit too myself..."What would be something interesting?" to make on the Graal platform as a server. There have been maybe hundreds of different ideas for server designs for Graal so far...while many have sadly just been replicas of the past. I myself have tried in the past to design a server which strayed from the pack in terms of designs, looks and playability (Stone Henge, Dual Ortus, etc.). But, each and every time I've completely failed lacking the one ability completely necessary to complete such an idea. Also, I'd also lacked any really good development support besides a few people.

So, I've come to a thought..."I really want to make something that will draw people in.". It seems as if graphics are all there is to draw someone into a server...but, if graphics draw someone in...what keeps them there for the whole ride? Is it the systems? The way the server feels? The community? Through maybe a year or so of practicing and coding here and there I feel I've learned enough about Graal Script that I could completely code an entire server. However, how would I sell this off to someone...? What if I coded an entire server, and then lacked someone to make some decent graphics for it?

Maybe it's just my own boredom...but I've been coding and designing some ideas for a Steampunk server.

This isn't really well put together, or made to make you think much...I suppose I'm just venting.

Clockwork 07-15-2008 12:11 AM

Vent considered.

If you scripted an excellent server, what graphics artist wouldn't want to work there, where, their art would be appreciated?

I dont really see the use of just saying "steampunk server". Why don't you explain on your idea? :)

It's happened probably 7 or more times to me.

Lol. I've not heard of many graphic artists that like to work on good servers.

In all honesty, I seriously think that the more skill you have as a scripter, the less help that you can receive in the graphics department on Graal. It's almost like a vex has been put on the whole game or something.

I dedicate more of my own time to servers I like more. :)

So you're saying I'm a really horrible scripter then?

Lmao, I believe I've had the pleasure of being one of the few "test" people on a few of those ideas. There were some really good ones too, especially Gileada.

Why thank you. And also if I were to explain it to you we'd have to sit down and I'd have to give you some pictures etc.

Its okay. I know for a fact that some of the tiles on mythic are taken from a much larger free tileset online for other games, so... :/

(p -> q) ! (q -> p)
Basically, an implication is not equal to its converse.

That's only half true. We use the grass tiles, a path tile, and a rock from a tileset made by an arist named Danc (who makes graphics and release them for anyone to use on a website named lostgarden), and they're not made for any other game - games just use them since Danc is awesome.

So, maybe 5% of our tileset is stuff we haven't made ourselves.

Inverness 07-15-2008 08:49 PM

And Steampunk means?

A subgenre of Alternate History; this generally deals with advanced technology in the altered past.

Steampunk is like a setting. Era when steam-powered things were at their peak. Dark Cloud 2 is a good example of a steampunk game. Lots of mechanical stuff powered by steam, and the general style of characters(boy... the girl is from the future or something):

I know where it came from, having explored there myself quite awhile ago.
He's rather expensive to hire though, I was curious back then. I used to have the same tiles you used, and had edited them to fit on graals tileset. I still have that tileset, but found the tiles really do not suite the style of graal lol. :3

Heh me too, mainly just the weapon levelling instead of players. I love upgrading a puny sword into a kick-ass black Dark Cloud sword.

Pity they had the wrenches for the boy :/ that sucked.

Hey, Grade Zero was AWESOME. Not because I have a similar name either :\.

DustyPorViva 07-15-2008 11:28 PM

Heh, I don't remember what that is.
Either way, smacking things with a wrench is just so retarded when you've got a big ass sword instead. I never used the boy :P

Sucks though, that the games best sword is the the stupidest sword design, EVER.

The wrenches didn't suck D:

In fact, I think I remember turning it into a huge Hammer :o I pwned with it.

DustyPorViva 07-15-2008 11:58 PM

Hammers sucked for the pure fact that they were slow as hell.

Island King:
Max Attack - 500
Max Attributes (each) - 250

Dark Cloud:
Max Attack - 300
Max Attributes (each) - 300

The Dark Cloud is actually the strongest weapon in the game in terms of attributes and combined with it's high number of combos (6) and weapon speed makes it pretty formidable compared with the Island King. With a maxed out Dark Cloud and Island King, you can do very well in the Moon Flower Palace with the Dark Cloud. You only really need the Island King for Chapter 8 and even then it isn't that necessary.

Also, Grade Zero is the best wrench as LEGEND is the best hammer. And as above, Grade Zero is good up to chapter 7 but the Legend kills almost everything in chapter 8 (maxed out of course) in about 1 - 3 hits. Everything else could be taken out with the Supernova (best beam gun) easy.

I always just used what ever character is appropriate for the monster I was fighting.

DustyPorViva 07-16-2008 01:35 AM

Oh... I have Grade Zero and Legend.

As for Dark Cloud vs Island King... ya I know, but I meant strong as in, attack. And ya, I was in chapter 8 and had to stop using my Dark Cloud :(

It just sucks that they would even consider the last final weapon to be so stupid.

That extra 50 in all 8 attributes is really useful against monsters with a bunch of weaknesses.

Not enough, though, in chapter 8 :P

Lmao.

I was looking for Dark Cloud 2 at GameStop, couldn't find it.
You guys make it sound really good.

It's a pretty great game if you can stand the repetitiveness of the dungeons.
In each chapter you have to complete a dungeon. Each dungeon contains a certain amount of rooms/floors you have to pass. Each floor is randomly generated, and the process of beating the floor is the same for each and every floor. Kill all the monsters, find the key to open the door, open door and proceed to next floor.

Even though each chapter contains a different dungeon, they all are pretty the same, but with different settings(sewers/canyon/forest...). So 90[percent] of the game is you going through floors and killing all the monsters. If you can stand that though, the game is great for the geosystem(rebuild cities the way you want to), and weapon customization. Oh, and I forgot it has a pretty cool invention system where you take pictures of objects, and piece pictures together to come up with an idea for something to invent.

I didn't know they had a PC verison. Even if I downloaded the Ps2 verison through a torrent I needed a modded Ps2 to use it.

i mean download from internet then past it to DVD CD format n play it in the qs2

xAzerothx 07-17-2008 05:03 AM

Yea, that's what I meant too.

zokemon 07-17-2008 07:12 AM

I'm all about pirating but I do NOT support pirating of games made by Level 5. They are to cool of a company for you to do that.

They have it at my store (the one I work at).

And yeah, the floors are randomly generated except for a few things such as the monsters (number and type) are always preset for each floor and some floors typically are larger or smaller then others.

But even with the repetative floors, the combat system still is pretty nice and I rarely grow tired of it.

Pro Gamestop Tip: By used to try the game out and return it with-in 7 days if you don't like it. Use an edge card to save 10% too ;).

And wtf is a qs3? I don't think you know what you are talking about dude, you can't play PS2 games that you burned without either a Japanese PS2, a modded PS2 or a boot-disk.

but if you wanna do this like me , you have to put a thing inside of the ps2 and is really hard . You have to open it and put.

xAzerothx 07-17-2008 06:07 PM

Oh, I see what you mean now. I don't play Ps2 anymore though, gotz my Ps3.

I like drum and bass too.

DustyPorViva 07-17-2008 06:38 PM

Boot-disk's don't work on the PS2. I mean... they work, but there's a whole other method along with it that involves taking off the front tray. The gameshark is a bootdisk, and I have one, but I still can't use it to boot unallowed disks :(

It's still part of the boot-disk process.

Come on guys, I own both a modded PS2 and the whole boot-disk set up.

I'd rather make graphics for a server which already has a functional system desperate for content
I get many requests from people to work for their server and make a tileset
but their server are most likely still from scratch and has nothing on it yet,
I think if you want people to work for you you should first script all the basic
stuff needed, then start hiring LATs and GATs
