Gmapping

Alright I really want to know how to gmap but nobody will help me so I thought it would be better if I just post it on the forums, that way people from all time zones might be able to help me. So if your willing to do alittle explaining please help me.

theres a couple ways you can do it.

You can use a gmap generator and all you do is type in the width/length of the gmap you want and then the gmap name. (Unfortunately i always lose the link to this generator)

Another way is to use graal's generator tool.

And you can do it manually.

Let me see if i can find that link, it will probablly be the easiest for you

Edit: heres the link for the gmap generator. http://www.graal.us/tools/generatelevels.html

Crow and a couple others have made their own, but i prefer using the link atm.

a prefix is the name of the gmap and is the name people will see. for example, i think zodiac's is zodiacworld. in every outside level you see zodiacworld_. ex: zodiacworld_ab-14.nw. And the size of the gmap is how big do you want it? 10 wide and 10 length is 100 levels. I think Era's gmap is somewhat close to that size. Before you start a gmap, you need to know how big you want it. is it for a overworld, event, etc...

you can't have .2 of a level. 2 x 2 means you will have a gmap thats a total of 4 levels. 2 wide and 2 in length. the center is center of the gmap. in a gmap 2 x 2, there really isn't a direct center so just pick a level.

to be honest, im not sure what why the center of the gmap is needed. But nonetheless it only takes a few minutes to fill out. say you have a gmap 3 x 3 look at the picture below (yeah it's bad but it gets the job done)

The red box would be the center

What did you input for each category for it to say that?

Edit: Your center x/y probablly don't make any sense.

if your gmap is 3 x 3 how can your x and y be 32 and 27? Look at my picture, theres only 9 levels, and your saying the center is level 32 and level 27. The center is 2, 2.

when it asks for the center, it isn't asking for the exact center of the gmap. you can make your gmap be 3 x 3 levels and still make the "center" the top left corner of the map. the "center" of the gmap is the level that will be named prefix_00-00.nw

like on Era, era_present_00-00.nw is unstick me. it's not in the exact center of the gmap at all. it's just the way you want to name your levels this way the main gmap level isn't some random combination.

It automatically names the levels based on the prefix you gave. Thats why this tool is so helpful.

@frankie: Ahh i always wondered what the center was needed for

oh.. you need to link them all together then make your own gmap file. I forget exactly how to do this but there's probably a guide somewhere on these forums. it's very simple.

when u use this tool it makes and connects new levels. Are you wanting to use levels that you already made on this gmap?

And frankie is right. In the .gmap file you'd edit that to connect levels manually for a gmap
