Michael Jackson

Hi,

How can I remove that "Rest in Peace Michael Jackson" from my player? I never liked him and will never like him, even after his death, the message pretty much annoys me to death.

Michael Jackson was one of America's most important pop culture figures. Regardless of what you think, he was insanely important and influential.

I'll remove it later tonight when I can get on.

How is a pop star important? And maybe he was influential to his fans which were mainly *****s. People are allowed to dislike him!

How was Michael Jackson important?

Michael Jackson was a stepping stone toward desegregating radio stations, MTV, etc. He helped break many racial boundaries. His music started a whole new genre, and he basically pioneered modern popular music. The Thriller video turned music videos into an art form, and added a whole new level to music.

Music is extremely important in life. I don't know about you, but I listen to music at least ten hours a day, much of it influenced by Michael Jackson.

You're greatly underestimating his importance. Era did more to honor the death of that crocodile guy than it did to honor Michael Jackson. You guess which person was more important.

I'm not going to step into his personal issues because most of them Darlene won't like posted about on the forums, but as far as the allegations, I firmly believe he's innocent, and so did the courts, apparently.

If someone like Britney Spears or Chris Brown were to die, I'd shrug it off. I'd miss their music, sure, but neither of them had near the impact on society that Michael Jackson did.

I think if Britney Spears dies we need to give her a memorial.

Human life was lost in both circumstances. I tend to not like the "this guy was more important than this guy". Certain people do have a more apparent impact on society, but each human being has an impact - seen or unseen by the public eye.

A death is a death. And we all meet the same end. It's tragedy regardless who dies.

And I've always thought of Michael Jackson as more of a performer than an artist/creative force. I could be wrong. Did he write all of his own material? (I'm not sure, I never was really into Michael Jackons' works.)

I don't think it's exactly right to press your opinion on someone else. Sure, you might have found him great and all, but that doesn't mean someone else has to. If they don't want to praise him or such after his death, I see no reason to force that on them.

Pressing beliefs, maybe not, but I don't think putting a "RIP Michael Jackson" in small text in the top-right of the screen is really hurting anybody.

Apparently it is. There was a lot of controversy about Jackson, so it's not exactly crazy to think that some people don't like him. If someone requests they don't want it, I don't see what it's hurting to remove it for them... without trying to convince them how great of a man he was.
