Are we allowed to upload copyrighted music to our server?

I can go and upload all my pokemon songs to my server then?

You can stream it though, just don't upload it in the file browser.

And, by streaming I mean

PHP Code:
//#CLIENTSIDE
function onCreated() {

play("http://www.website.com/path/to/your/song.mp3");

Well, if they uploaded it, it must of been downloaded from the server to your graal folder for it to be played.. So if you find some music files in your graal folder that sounds alike the music you heard on Atrius, you know they uploaded it.

Yes, you will see the link in the sound options. Atleast I think so.

Consider them snitched and issue resolved. Thanks for the heads up, I get the feeling they didn't realize it was an issue.

Why'd it say that you cannot upload copyrighted stuff, but then goes on to say you must have the copyright or permission on something in order to uploader it in the first place, transfering the copyright to Graal?

There's a difference between uploading copyrighted material without consent, and uploading copyrighted material that either you own (most likely intellectual property, rather than government-issued copyright), or that you have permission from the copyright holder to use on the server. Graal's copyright policy doesn't override, however, the original copyright holder's license. Not that this has been said by Unixmad, but I know this because a copyright doesn't transfer from one entity to another, just because that other entity said it does.

MP3s shouldn't be uploaded to a server, anyways. Use an off-site host.

Wow.
Copyrights are a serious problem
but anyway, uploading a music to the file browser takes too much time first, + it will probably fail because the file is too large or something.
Streaming FTW.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now and say they disabled the script they were using to play the music but forgot to remove the song from the server itself. Then wander over there in a few minutes and see if I'm right or not.

I prefer having my server music directly uploaded on RC and then use optional updatepackages for downloading them. That way I know that the song will definitely be available for as long as the server is online, plus I remember myself going through my Graal music folder as a newb and just listening to all songs - it was a lot of fun back then.

Also, if you have custom made music for your server and have someone that can claim ownership for it (we had Oinkness record himself making them and show Stefan a YouTube video of it) Stefan can raise your .mp3 download limit. I believe I had 20 or 30 MB limit for songs on Mythic, which Oinkness nearly hit several times.

Are you guys talking about the Soulja Boy crappy music loop in the club? If not, theres another piece of copy righted material on Atrius. How did that get through the PWA, assuming it was there on the review.

Rap should be banned from Graal anyways. Unless it's Era. It would be so badass if I had a good sound system on my computer, and someone in a car pulls up to me on the streets of Era blasting music from their car that makes my whole bedroom vibrate. It happens when people drive by my house, but I'd love to see Graal do that.

That soulja boy clip was the ****test made loop. dont get me started on the actual music.

So why is streaming legal? Your still using some one else work for commercial purposes. Not what the original stream was intended for.

I believe it's because when you upload something to your server you claim that you made it and all it's contents. When you stream you didn't upload it to your server so you're not claiming it as your own.

But the condition that you stream is that its done for non-commercial (mostly private) purposes. Streamed music on graal = commercial purposes. And even so either way you cannot edit the stream (Atrius club level loop).

That only matters if the site you're streaming it from has a policy against commercial uses. When you stream it, you're assuming and trusting that the site legally owns the media and is allowing you to use it for your own means.

The only thing that matters is that if you stream the audio, graal can't be held liable. That's really where their care ends as far as audio goes. It's behind the curtain at that point.

If a site can figure out that you're streaming their mp3 on Graal, they have every right to contact you and complain... but the likelihood that they will actually be able to find you is very low. And even if they do, you just need to remove the stream and there'll be no problem.

You'll probably only have problems if you run up and go, "I'm streaming from your site! Na na na na na na!"

I agree with what your saying. Usually theres no way of knowing unless some one tells u that graal is streaming your music. But if graal wants 0 liability then they wont allow streaming without proof of consent.

Can someone from Atruis please tell why they wanted soulja boy being played in the club? an why it was made into such a bad loop?
But really i love you guys over at atrius (kinda atleast)
