Help me with hair!

I'm drawing this picture and I want to get a really nice hair effect to match the image... it's gonna be like shiny blonde but I need to find a really nice way of doing a semi-detailed hair effect... like tons of hair strands with different shades of color and clarity... I wish I had an example of the kind of hair I want but it's basically like that uber detailed anime hair. (if you know what I'm talking about)

Also some critiques would be nice. Before anyone says anything, I don't plan to keep the dark black outline around the face or on the hair. =P

Its just like pixel art...but you get to use more colors.

Lighten / Darken tool if you're lazy. Layering / Alpha Blending if you're patient.

Yeah something like that... but does anyone have any idea how to go about this using photoshop? I mean... do you just sit there and draw thousands of lines or what?

There's gotta be some shortcuts or a method of doing this...

lol... yeah but I mean... even a tutorial on it would be nice... should I start with a dark base and do light lines? Light base and draw the dark lines? Draw every color on a different layer? Well I finished it. I'm happy enough with it. I still have a lot to learn with photoshop... It's freaking hard for me to do anything with just a mouse... I wish I had a tablet PC.

I sort of rushed after a while because it is seriously way too tedious to sit there and draw lines of hair. But I like the end result anyway... Oh well.
