Unoriginality, idea stealing, blah blah blah..

I was reading the era forums, and I came upon a post about adding a stock market to era. Players started whining that so and so had stolen their idea, and they had it first. I found it funny. Every one of those guys obviously stole that idea from real life. I mean cmon, do you really think people are going to peek inside your head and look through your ideas and "steal" them? I dunno about this whole stealing thing, but I believe I have been inspired by a few sources that were so excellent, I decided to implement something similar.... You would think that the developers of said content would be happy that their stuff is so great that others want to make something similar. Naw, they are stealing ideas. On GDNet we call it being inspired by others work, here you all call it stealing ideas.

I've also noticed that people don't post their ideas in fear of them being stolen. Why? Chances are your ideas will work best in the world that you've built them around. I say fear people who steal your content, because ideas must be developed, and are practically worthless unless placed into a design document (thick with information). Nobody wants to steal your entire server idea, it probably sucks according to many of the people who will read it, they all have their own idea of the best server.

So please, get over it, nobody will steal your ideas, but they may be inspired by them, and if they are, be flattered.

-Scott
(wow theres a whole part about unoriginality in here, i'll go for a swim and then type up what was on my mind)

Curt1zzle, if you havn't seen people whining about idea stealing on the graal forums, you are blind. Why do you make such worthless posts in my threads?

Someone claimed that someone stole their stock market idea?

So you'd rather have 500 servers that are the exact same because everyone is using the same ideas for them, than someone safeguarding their ideas and implementing them on their own server? Ideas are what you patent.

People keep their ideas to themselves so others don't take that idea. So the original 'inventor' of the idea can be reconized as the original creator, so to speak. Rather than just another 'rip off'.

I only made that Stock market thread idea because i figured that Era is a modern server, and its in our times. So theres an infinite ammount of things era can do ^_^

Where in the modern world would Era be? Downtown New York? Era is a world completely void of organization, ran by "gangz" and "biz" where you go around shooting each other to steal money for the system some like to fantasize is an economy.

Era is not a modern world. It is a twisted world with modern technology present.

Well it has to be twisted, if someone killed another player and the detectives were trying their up most hard to prove it, even though they cant on graal. And get jailed for life? lol

It wont ever be exact to real life, but its based off that.

Why the fixation with death? o.o

It would be more realistic if it was based on having an economy, generating income so people could have toys (not killing devices) to play with.

Era just seems to have a morbid fixation with death...
