Server Update
|
All gservers + npcservers have been updated to support a new way of allowing access: instead of ip-ranges you can also use the computer id for identifying people. In the ip-range field you can add "pc:<computerid>", e.g. pc:1 for allowing my computer. You can get the computer id by typing "/openaccess <accountname>" while someone is online. This is working for v4 and RC2, not for old clients or old RCs.
The gservers need to be restarted to enable this.
About security: For people that use AOL or similar it should increase the security quite a lot, since only people from the right computer can use the account then, so even if the password is leaked it will not be possible to abuse the powers of the hacked account. The computer id itself is quite secure - it's not impossible to crack but quite complicated (requires access to your computer and more). If you have the choice, then follow this table of security levels:
1. Best is a fixed ip or a small ip range (e.g. 1.2.3.*)
2. Second best is to use computer id
3. A wide ip-range is still better than nothing |
