Seems like it'd be redundant to add both the account name and nickname to every message in history like that. It might be nice if the account name was inserted just once at the beginning of the conversation after the log is loaded so that it can be copied.
For example:
Quote:
Conversation between Ibonic (unknown) and Stefan (dnd)
unknown (12/14/2005 7:17:33 PM):
fake!
dnd (12/14/2005 7:16:00 PM):
i didn't really type this

Although I see there could be a slight problem if both are using the same nickname. Hmm, "You" and "Opposite" could be used even while online maybe?
Quote:
Conversation between Ibonic:unknown (You) and Stefan:dnd (Opposite)
You (12/14/2005 7:17:33 PM):
fake!
Opposite (12/14/2005 7:16:00 PM):
i didn't really type this
|
Nah, I don't like that.
Just account names?
Quote:
Conversation between unknown (*Ibonic) and dnd (*Stefan)
*Ibonic (12/14/2005 7:17:33 PM):
fake!
*Stefan (12/14/2005 7:16:00 PM):
i didn't really type this

There are many possibilities. Maybe yours is best afterall; The redundancy can be good when copying and pasting only a part of the log.
Anyway, normally what I do when that happens is open the PM history folder in Windows Explorer (if on Windows at the time) and sort the files by the last time they were modified in order to figure out who it was. I used to do that when people messaged me and then logged off before I was able to read the PM, until Stefan acted on my request to implement the "offline messages" in v4.
