Family trees/histories...

In the spirit of promoting RP (rather than complaining about its lack, of which I'm also guilty), I've always been curious:

What are the origins of the families on Graal? Who are the members and how are they related to each other. Vendettas, rivalries, customs, legends---families on GK are filled with these, so if you could maybe post a short history of the family and its members/relations, I think it would be a nice exercise in RP. Through a few IC conversations with some people on GK, I've been able to learn a lot about this anyway, so I think a thread like this would be very helpful. Heck, even personal player RP history (keeping in mind that powerRPing is frowned upon) would be nice to see.

Hopefully this thread won't be empty. Come on, people, can't complain about lack of RP and then not lead by example. I'm personally very interested and curious.

I have no family per say... so here's my personal RP story.

It was a stormy night when Captain Ghost Pirate and his crew pillaged and destroyed the town of Leylade. One of the men, named Armored Ear by his fellow crewmates, took a woman of the town as his "prize." After shoving her in his cavern he celebrated with his fellow pirates. A few days passed by until Armored Ear finally returned to his cabin. As he opened the door he was taken back from a horrid stench. He saw a newborn elf, lying on the floor motionless next to his mother, who was dead from the birth. Armored Ear picked up the child and as he held it in his arms, the child opened its eyes and began to move. Armored Ear raised the child as his own, keeping it a secret from his fellow pirates. He found a pendant on the mother, placed it around the newborn’s neck and placed a bandana on his head to cover its pointy ears.

It wasn’t until the child was age eight when Armored Ear introduced him to the Pirate Crew. He didn’t tell any of them that he helped raised the kid, just that he found him and that he was interested in following the ways of the pirates. The pirates were very accepting of the kid, and named him Kyden due to the pendant that he wore around his neck. Kyden grew up with the Pirates and grew close to two pirates who were around his age, Peg Leg and Dragus Caur. Kyden had a fairly normal childhood, as normal as it could be for someone growing up on a ship with Pirates. He quickly became just as ruthless as the others around him. Kyden, Peg Leg, and Dragus became well respected in the Pirate Crew, as they grew older.

One morning while Kyden was putting on his bandana, which until this time had always hid his pointed ears, Peg Leg burst into his room to discover his secret. Kyden was immediately forced to walk the plank and explain himself. Kyden and Armored Ear stood silent. Peg Leg charged at Kyden and perhaps hoping to impress Captain Ghost Pirate, sliced the right side of Kyden’s face. Soon after, sparks flew from Kyden’s fingers and his previously tied hands were now free. This was the first time Kyden’s Elven powers manifested themselves. With his free hands he quickly grabbed Peg Leg’s sword, made his way gracefully through the pirates to Armored Ear and skillfully detached his earring. With that Kyden dove into the dark sea. To this day Kyden still wears the earring.

A tired and weary Kyden found himself on the shores of the kingdom Tyealia where he met the King, Vulcan Le Fey. Vulcan took a liking to the young boy and was sympathetic. Kyden spent a few months in the city of the clouds, refining some of his crude ways and studying various texts. Yet his stay was short-lived as the Curons soon demolished Tyealia. Once again Kyden was left alone. He ventured on his own for quite some time, but eventually met some who were like him, other elves. Under the direction of then, Aran, Gryffon Durime, Kyden drank the Sap of Turns from the Tree of Life. This sap transformed Kyden, the full-blooded Elf into an Autumn Elf, orange-skinned creatures who are more connected to the Tree of Life.

Now Kyden Alrithe of the Forest, Kyden possesses the virtues and vices of the season of Fall and has finally found a home in the Forest. Early on, Kyden had some troubles fitting in due to his Pirate past. For example he is not as socially refined as the other members of his kingdom.
He entered the Forest as a mere Red Druid to refine his magic abilities. Under the direction of Gryffon Anthony Durime and Zxion Rhynn, Kyden quickly developed his powers. He rose to the ranks of Charmbreaker quickly. Then just months after initially being welcomed into the Forest, Kyden Alrithe was promoted to lead the Forest’s Elven Magi as the Grand Druid of the Forest.

Known Relatives of Shawn: None

The following Copied and Pasted from the Dustari Player RP History Thread.

Shawn Laurent Kelfonne / Lumine Wynn Seraphina

(Short Version at the bottom for those averse to reading)

Long Version:
Now twenty-three years of age, Shawn was born in the town of Fairweather, in the far off continent of Rella. A peaceful village, it was the musical center of the kingdom, and as such, many minstrels came from Fairweather. Slightly bored with the quiet rural life, Shawn would dream of the tales of old, of heroes, demons, swords, and sorcery. At the impressionable age of 14, Shawn set out from home with his grandfather's blade, the Silverfang, along with a lute, a whistle, and an odd pendant, also passed on to him from his grandfather.

Searching for adventure, it wouldn't be long before he found it. While traveling along the roads, he came across a small band of adventurers, one of which included the poet Gabriel. Not used to traveling on his own, and somewhat overwhelmed by how difficult being a 14 year old on the road actually was, he was more than happy to find people who would accept him into their group. While camping one night, the poet borrowed Shawn's pendant, using it to carve symbols into a staff he carried. After some time, it was realized that the poet was either the demon Saim Hann in disguise, or was at least controlled by him. The group fought many battles against the demon, finally ending in a desert town, when Saim made his escape. The group there decided to split, each of the members heading their separate ways. A bit wiser and more experienced after this journey, Shawn's adventures were only beginning.

While visiting the port of Kerlynzia in Rella, Shawn came across the sight of a large ocean-going ship. These were a very rare sight, since it was generally believed that sailing too far from the continent was a deathwish. Intrigued by the ship, Shawn snuck aboard and went along for the ride. In the midst of the journey, he was found by the crew, and tossed overboard, with nothing but the clothes on his back, his pendant, and Silverfang. Luckily, at that time, the ship happened to be passing by a small archipelago. Shawn swam for a bit, but eventually tired, drifting onto the shores of Mainne Island as daylight broke.

His clothes were torn, soaked, and covered with sand in nearly every possible location. He got up, dusted himself off as best as he could, and started to explore this new land he had come across. It seemed he was in a minority here, as Humans and Elves seemed to be the majority of the general population, so he tread lightly, taking care not to draw too much attention to himself. After a short while of living off what he could find, and sleeping in trees, his curiousity got the better of him once again. Magic seemed to be in great supply on this new land, and this was in stark constrast to Rella, where only priestesses and town elders were users of the Goddess' Magic. Studying diligently, he managed to learn a few basic spells, and became a citizen in the ranks of Dustari.

As time passed, Shawn continued his studies, and was able to focus his powers better. No matter how powerful his magic became though, he reminded himself that he could not rely on it completely, since not everything in the world can be solved with the wave of a paw. Rising through the ranks of the magehood, Shawn was appointed as the Kingdom's Aegis Mage. Tasked with the protection of the lands, and the study of Magic. Things wouldn't stay comfortable forever though, as the spirit of adventure seemed to grip Shawn just as things settled down.

Working off a map he had found while searching through some old books in the castle, he set off in a ship at the age of 17. Not much is known of what happened during Shawn's absence, other than although he was gone only a month as time passed in the Archipelago, when he returned, he was five years older. This may be attributed to the existance of one, Lumine Seraphina.

As Shawn tells it, while he was abroad he came across the demon Saim Hann once again. Somewhat cross about having been defeated so many years ago, he dogged Shawn constantly, trying to get some small amount of revenge, though Shawn actually played little part in the original defeat of the demon. Shawn's magic was no match for the rage of a demon bent on revenge, so he turned to the spirits to help, petitioning the Goddess to help him protect himself, along with those he had gained as friends along the way. Things don't always work out as planned however, and as his request was answered, Shawn gained the power to protect others by becoming the host for one of the Goddess' spirits, Lumine Seraphina. Not much more had been heard about Shawn in the records of that time, as his name simply seemed to disappear from any records.

Slightly over a month since his disappearance from the archipelago, a figure in blue robes began appearing around members of the Dustarian kingdom that had a connection to Shawn. This strange figure would reveal herself as Lumine Wynn Seraphina, and say that she was a friend of Shawn, not revealing much else. The Archmage at the time, Satrek Horn, quickly realized that Lumine, was in fact Shawn himself. It appeared that the acceptance of Lumine into his body caused more changes than he was comfortable with, hence the secrecy. Satrek was able to develop a pendant that suppressed the powers of Lumine enough to keep Shawn's appearance normal, but still allow him to call on Lumine in times of need. With Lumine's help, Shawn spends his time back in his position as Aegis Mage, as well as following leads which may bring him to see the final defeat of Saim, and other demons bent on causing suffering. This is not to say the relationship is a peaceful one, as Shawn is at times seen arguing with some unseen person, though he tries hard to avoid such behavior in public.

Short Version:
Shawn left home at the age of 14, joined a group of adventurers, and was involved in the defeat of a demon.
Stowing away on a ship, he was tossed overboard, eventually arriving at the Archipelago.
He became interested in Magic, and rose through the Dustari magehood, becoming Aegis Mage.
He left on a ship at the age of 17, but when he returned, he was much older.
While off in far away lands, he accepted the spirit Lumine into his body in order to protect those who he cared for.
Lumine changed Shawn a bit more than he liked, and Satrek came up with a pendant to deal with it.
Shawn continues to live as the Aegis Mage, dealing with his skewed relationship with Lumine, who resides within him.

I'll talk about the various Dustari families of old. These families would still be around but more like higher nobles.

Royal House of Nightrose-
Fairly large family. This house held the Dustari throne in the 3rd age I believe. At this present time Dustari is in its 11th Age. The House was led by King Kamuii Nightrose who married to [insert KawaiiSaria's rp nickname here]. They had two princes and one Princess (Arwen?). Their reign fell, including most of their family, when Ackbar occured.

The Duchy of Warhare-
The Warhare Duchy was formed when a war hero by the name of Zurkiba (I know, I was a total newbie back then and uncreative =x) was granted land and title by Prince Charles Nightrose. He married to a young lady named Scarlett [insert last name here =x]. They had a son and a daughter. The daughter was married off and the son went on to become a military officer. Duke Zurkiba Warhare was called to the new world to assist in management there, Scarlett refused to leave the old lands and said she would wait for his return. A main rivalry of the Warhare family were the Durimes. The Durimes will be covered in the bottom portion, but this rivalry was mediated by the King Henry Barbarossa of Dustari (4th Age) as he outlawed both families from the other's land grants.

The Duchy of Durime-
The Durime Family line is led by Gryffon Durime. Gryffon Durime is the brother of Wryoko Durime. They came from a far away land that was destroyed by the Melhk (Astri's motherland). Later Gryffon's nephew and other family members escaped to the 'old world', some of these family members include Tseng Durime. Gryffon went many years without finding a wife, for he was a different species from human. However he was able to woo Scarlett Warhare when Zurkiba left and they produced a bastard son by the name of Padraig Durime. A rivalry of the Durime family is the Warhare Family.

The Archduchy of Trenine-
The Trenine Archduchy was led by Archduke Tupper Trenine. He married to a young lady and had many kids (I dont know a lot about them )

That's about it.
--

The Zormites dont really have families, but they're more like in various tribes. Each kingdom has different tribes. Some tribes are outcasts, others are workers, however the leading tribe is the Emperor's tribe. There are many tribes, I can only recall the Zaeri Tribe (Nomadic Zormites, Outcasts) and the Zorbi Tribe (Emperor Tribe of like the 10th Age or so). The Sahuagin are many tribes that have formed into one governing body in which there is a Grand Sahuagin to lead them.

The Vimes Family:

There is the mother, who's name (to be honest) I forget. (It's been a while since she was a significant part of Vimes RP) and the father who left the mother after birthing the first son. His history is unknown.

Then there was another husband who birthed a second son; he died at sea (this was a marineer village).

The first song is Fitzwilliam Vimes, then there is the second who's name I also forget (if someone remembers, the character was played by Vlad).

Then there is the uncle, Ruathma, who was of the mother's side of the family. He travelled to another island, because he was tired of the poor Kingdoms economy (was a business d00d).

Then there was some cousins (of the mother's side), Tigarius who married Ravelyn, and then divorced her... and uh... some others. I forget really, perhaps someone else knows a bit more about the family tree and can fill in the details I missed

The High House of the Chancellor, Durime:

The clan Durime originated in a barren, wintery wasteland off the Southern Coasts of Mehlk. There are two direct lines of descent in the current clan: the coupling of the Daveon Warlord Kassandros with an elven magus named Arianna Durime led to two sons: Wryoko, the elder and an accomplished Archmagus, and Gryffon, the younger who devoted himself to the Priesthood of Mytri. The second line follows Arianna Durime and the nomadic sage Vodallion led to three children: Vodallion II, Tseng, and Arianna II.

Gryffon, along with his love Scarlett, bore one son, Padraig, who married a human woman named Maria. They had Gryffon's grandson, Skye.

Durime became one of the Three Noble Houses; While House Warhare held the Military and House Trenine held the citizenry, House Druime was home to scholars, and played host to the Chancellorship, the greatest honor the King can bestow on a House.

It is still debatable whether or not House Durime owns the Silverstag Fief in Dustari.
