Old West hiring - New management and making some things clear.

Hello, I am in charge of Ol' West (Soon to be renamed to Old West). So many new plans, I don't know where to start, first off I would like to appologize that I am making the third Ol' West post concerning hirings, But I have so much more to share. I would like to appologize on our former GAT's behalf, He uploaded those stolen images, which have been promptly removed since I have been put in control. I have no updated snapshots of stuff I or my staff have added, because Graal's serverlist is down... But you can see in other pictures, Old West is a promising new server, which is bound to succeed with the right precautions, Dedicated Staff, and Fit management. We have very high security RC and Script-wise, Everything interaction is logged, so If you plan on abuse if you work here, Don't count on getting far.

Level Plans
We plan on making over 3000 levels of GMAP, to give Old West room to show its full potential. We will have a very nice Train System planned, in which we plan on putting train tracks, tunnels, mountains, rivers, and many other features that the trains will be able to go. Many different cowboy/cowgirl towns. If you're into western things, You will love the plans we have for Old West.

Future Plans
We plan on having Indian Towns aswell, We have not decided if we're going to make Indian Baddies or not, but I think we are going to have Old West where you can chose your Race in the begining, Indian or Cowboy... You will be able to take Boats, ect.. to get to the Indian lands, Causing constant conflict between players. But badtalking other people because of their In or Out-game race will not be tolerated. Indians will be able to use Bow's, Spears, and many other weapons, all tools will be arrow-head related, and jobs will include making arrowheads from flint, which will be found in creeks on our GMAP. Cowboys will have Guns, Knife's, and a few other things.

Future and Present Improvements
I have already remade our Mines, Which is the only way to make money at the moment, I have added cave sounds, water drops, a beautiful light display (If I may say so myself), and a few other things! If the mines are too dark you can buy a lantern which will light your way. If you mine using a pick axe your mining level will raise, making it easier to mine for you, if you get to mining level 10 (cap level), You will soon be able to mine different minerals which sell for more! Blacksmithing aswell as Mineral Smelting will be available shortly aswell. We need many Graphics if we are going to accomplish anything though....

What we need
∙ To make this GMAP work, we will need a few talented Level Designer's that can work well with other tileset's, and know basic scripts.

∙ We need a LOT of Graphics so we can get our Scripts, and Levels rolling, If you are interested in doing Graphic Art for us, Please Contact me! We prefer if you can do Gani's aswell, but if you can't that's fine.

Sound Effect's team would be REALLY helpful, if you're interested please contact me ASAP.

∙ One Web Designer that can do Flash websites and Website Art, would be nice.

If you are interested in any of these jobs, Please Email me: [email protected]
Send a forum PM.
Or just pop on Ol' West and send me a PM, I am usually always on, and working on something new for Ol' West. Thanks for everything, and goodluck for those who are interested.

Why the rename? Ol' West sounds better than Old West.

Also, 3000 level GMAP? that's overdoing it.

It's just an estimation of how much we will need to completely do what we plan. Well, I have asked a lot of people who said they liked Old West better than Ol' West, But I guess if enough people agree, It will stay the same. We want Ol' West to be somewhat realistic, The world is a big place.

The GK overworld is 40x40. Which is ~1600 levels. And that is with 3D terrain, which helps fill in detail. That is *A LOT* to do with a flat GMAP. Too big IMHO.

Perhaps it will turn out a bit smaller, But, The point is, The trains will litterally be moving on the terrain, So the time between town to town will be realistic, ect.

In the American West during the Civil war times towns on the frontier were few
and far between. I like the idea of having large open places.

Cigars would make the settings inside of saloons great. Some real smoke effects
would be awesome. Someone by the name of Giltwist had a really neat smoke
effect script. I can't remember if he just gave it to me or posted it to the
NPC Scripting forums. It is probably worth a search.

Also, quick draw contests would be great. If you have ever seen the movie
The Quick and the Dead you know what I am talking about. I'm sure you
can think of a few ways to make this more interesting than just pushing buttons.

Could be extremely boring having to travel between places in big open nothingness though.

Extremely boring? You would be able to walk from train car to train car and when you go outside you see the train moving. Also, It would take about as long as GK's ships take to get from island to island.

Yea, but your forgetting your not stefan. Stefan can script a monkey that logs on every server and starts beating up the owner and logs off if he want's. He is Mr. Scripter, the most evil person in the world. If he is hungry, he will send his monkey's out to knock on Unixmad's door and steal his wallet so he can order Pizza. When the Pizza comes he will send the monkey's to kill the pizza guy and make him his personal chef! He is evil I tell you...E V I L!

Okay, I am done. :-)

no zodiacs is defenitely 8000. log on and look for yourself!. although more than half of it is ocean.
The wild west didnt exactly have huge oceans, but then again a desert doesn't require much detail either.

Agreed.

There isn't much on the tileset to work with. No detail, things need to be added. Good concepts and ideas, though without the proper eye candy in levels, it will end up being boring. You need the levels to be not blank.

There's plenty of things you can do with the Old West setting- don't think of it as big ol' vast plains. Think of it as an ocean of sand. Sprinkle intersting locations across the land- Indian holygrounds, traveling merchant camps, caves, the rare and elusive water spring, etc.
My only complaint is that this will probably turn into Era if it's ever released.

That is great. I know I'll probably kick myself for mentioning this, but a prime example is the countryside in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. To the unwary eye, the countryside and Terra Roboda is just empty plains and forest, but if you pay attention, you can find MANY easter eggs and horseshoes -- not to mention some very scenic views for a game.

I'm just spitting out ideas, but one part could involve a small wagon circle that was heading westward but they broke down. Mission right there.

Oh, and keep with it...the server has potential, maybe you won't drive it into the ground like it was in the past.

Exclamation Yes, making some things clear...

I've talked with the globals about this problem. If i manage a server, and i upload an image that was given to me for that server to use, yes, it belongs to them. If a playerworld asks me if they can use that image, and i allow them, then no, that is not a crime. Globals told me themselves: The image is in my copyright, thus allowing me to do what i want with that image. Some of my, what i use to call, friends temporarily quit graal. They offered to give me certain images before they left (a dead tree, and a few other images.) which i accepted. Meaning, those images are now in my custody whether i made them or not. If i decide to use them on my playerworld or give them to other developing playerworlds, that is not a crime. The people who quit graal came back and "changed their minds" about the graphics they gave to me. They wanted them back. It was too late. I already uploaded the image to Ol' West. It belongs to them. They then accused me of uploading "stolen" graphics. You can't come back and all of a sudden "change your mind" about the images you've given me. You gave them to me, i accepted them, they belong to me. If you see the images you gave to me being used by another server because i allowed them to use it, then you have no say in what stays and goes. I did not steal a dead tree from a player and upload it as an image, saying it was made by me. I don't steal graphics. Those who have worked with me before now my methods. They know i don't steal. I've talked this out with Ol' West' current Admin, Mag. We've straightened everything out. I've never stolen any images from any player. I've comitted no crime. Tig, there was no need to apologize for my behalf because no crime has been comitted. You just didn't know what was going on.

I'm sorry you all had to read this. I know it's irrelevant to the Staff Openings thread, but i had to clear this mess up because Ol' West' owner didn't bother to. I've spoken the truth, whether you choose to believe it or not.
