Post Stop Swearing And Sexual Abuse!

This is also in graal Main to get my point to players and to see what they feel about the matter, but its here too, so it can be seen as an Idea.

Idea:Build In An Anti Swearing/Abuse into graal, they stop such words on these forums, yet on graal people can say what they want to say, and if your not stopping it your supporting it (In A Way) Also this should be the same with PMs too.

This can be done with NPC Scripts, but Id rarther it was built in to stop it once and for all!

Note:

When you block a word you would have to block things like:

F@U@K@K (Yes I Know There Are 2 Ks)

And also Number/Character Substitutes:

B1*C# (*=Bleeping It Out)

Nuh, I do not think that built-in stuff is good
There should not be the need to have something like that in first place... change the players, not the system

The players wont change, cant you see? There all immature, my post in graal main went off in an abuse bit for 3 posts of people bending around the forums profanity stopper. The players are childish and wont change and there are not enough global people to punish players so they wont just chyange by them self.

Actually, players can change, but it requires extra effort to force them to change. Basically, taking a stand and not letting them walk all over you is the first step.

Yeah I know they can change, I ment they dont seem to want to change. Someone needs to draw up some new rules for in gameplay and for forums. And enforce them strongly.

That's the problem.
Most player world managers are oh so worried about their oh so important player count.
Very few managers enforced the rules as they are.
Sadly one of those, possibly two of the managers that did enforce the rules has quit.

I agree completely. Being the head honcho for Classic server (It can be argued, but I'm the surrogate considering everyone above me comes online every few days for 5 minutes) I can truthfully say that even if we enforce the rules and keep most people playing peacefully, there will always be those who just want to break the rules because they can.

Laziness should no longer be an excuse, people have been asking for a filtering system for years. Trust me, I was one of them.

Yeah, I think it has come to this now. Or maybe stefan/unix could say all players have 4 weeks to stop swearing as much and abusing people or a filer will have to be installed.

I designed an anti swearing system a while ago and it worked great for the most part. Could block out words or partial words effectively. It hindered chat commands with other npc's though so it didn't work well enough.

Personally, I'd rather have an intelligent filter of some kind that it counts the number of times a certain word is used within a short period of time and/or number in a sentence. This could cut down on swearing because it could reach a limit and either replace the word with an alternate or asterisks. I'm not going to say that swearing is bad and yada, yada because I'm no better at controlling my own tongue sometimes.

While we're at it let's kill everyone in real life who cusses and completely ignore being able to file reports of sexual harrassment and discrimination!

Maybe I'll design a smart-filter later that will do something such as count your frequency of uses, after a certain frequency is met it will warn the RCs online of your activities (eg 3 cusses a minute is unacceptable, so this guy/girl may have a problem) And if it continues it might disable their chating ability for a given time. Replacing a word just is dumb because the other person already knows what you are talking about anyhow.

Exactly. Being able to decipher it and seeing it plainly aren't very different, and usually have the same impact.

Not hard to do. Mine also could easily count how often each word was said. It could easily be modified to switch out words for other words. If I can find where I stashed the script.

------

But as I said... It does seem to interfier with other systems that read players text. Like spoken commands and possibly warpto commands.
aw well a sleep .1 would prabably fix all of that.

If you want to stop swearing -
Stop screwing the players.
When I lost ALL my experience in a G2K2 dungeon I swore a blue streak.
When I died, lost a level, and permanently lost a point of dexterity before the monsters even loaded? There are words still in orbit.
When I blew 16 plats on a clay figurine only to be told "Sorry, that's disabled"? You could hear my cursing from distant galaxies.
Swearing is a natural response to an unncessary condition.

Oh boy, That is an excellent idea.

Although you must admit there are many who swear for no other reason than to be jerks. Or they are just used to swearing a lot with no reason.

How about a report user feature ....

like when u recieve a pm there can be a report player button which then opens a new window asking for info on why your reporting the user etc. then it forwards the info to a GP

I think this thread does not concern the swearing about a situation, but the insulting of other players.

Attack-swearing is a natural response to an attack which one is powerless to retaliate to. Caused by such things as systems in which a player can take another's hard-earned labor, but cannot be forced to return it (not even in death) - G2K2 had such a system, then fixed it, then brought it back. "GIMME BACK MY DOUGH YOU *expletive expletive*!" is not an unreasonable reaction.

Yes, but sending a mass PM like "Omg, the ******* **** Tyhm ******* stole my dough. ****!! If he can't ******* work, he should shoot himself instead of playing here." isn't nice, is it?

It's impolite, but the frustration is wholly understandable.

Yeah, because we want to be able to swear in our reports! "Hey, some guy ****ing ****head made a ****ing pretense at raping a girl on Classic. ****, I hate those people". The report just doesn't work any more when the words are censored

Swearing in response to actual personal harm makes up perhaps 0.2% of all use of expletives. The rest is "**** u random person. **** it **** ******* ** * *** *** lol". People use swear words to replace punctuation.

*shrugs*

Different fashions. They like to be rebels, not realising that the fact that every other kid in the world swears all the time too kinda diminishes the impact of the rebellion.

Prehaps there not aloud to do it at home, so the chance to do it in the home but on a computer and not getting caught gives them a risk and a high.

That's the trouble with all antiswearing regs we've ever had though. "Goddammit, that's the fifteenth time I died in that fecking dungeon!" gets punished, "Ha ha, Tyhm's a donkey fecking peckerhead!" does not, based entirely on who's online to police and how awake they are.

So just put in a filter and deal with both. Problem solved.
