Private head

i think that if a player makes a head he or she should be able to make it where only he or she can use it, but liek you could only do it to one, i have made 3 heads and they were uplaoded, so i could have 1 of them private so only i could use it, i think taht would be cool so you could be unique and people wouldn't be running around saying omgomg look i am you and stuff :[

Personnaly I don't think any heads/bodies/swords/shields should be allowed to be used only by one person.

but alex, i mean if you go through all the troble and you make a head i think you should be able to have it so only you can use it, but like only 1 head not liek all of them you make, becuase my head was made for me, not some jerk who is gonna wear it then use my name and mass bad things ;[

But if you make one head and expect that to be solely for you that shouldn't be allowed.
If you've made quite a few heads or whatever then I would say having it is okay as long as it isn't a popular head that lots of people use.

When I made my shield i put the name down as bloodkane-shield.gif (at the time graal used only .gifs) but now people know who made it cuz they gotta actually type in my name for the shield (but now that I look at it...i made it wayyyyy to big)

you could get your head uploaded, then not tell them what the name of it is. I have three shields uploaded, and i kind of like it when people use them.

Think about it if grala started like that when everyone got a head uploaded that they could only use it that would be pretty dumbe and if someone else is wearing your head you made it doesnt mean you can go and say "OMGON I MAD THAT HEAD U TAKE IT OFF NOW U POSER FU IDIDOT"
You got it uploaded means everyone can use it not just you.

There are too many problems with having private heads.

1. What happens if people leave all of the sudden? There would be lot's of private heads that aren't even in use, taking up space.
2. There would be tons of people taking other heads and recoloring/modifying them and then claiming them as personal.
3. There would be a massive increase in graphic submissions for "private only" graphics, which would basically stop all public graphics from existing. (unless a rule was made that you must submit 3 public heads before you can have 1 personal head, but still it's a lot of trouble for graphics people to deal with)

I honestly think it is a trivial thing to worry about an individual look in an online game. I can understand that you made those graphics for you, but come on..when you upload a graphic, you should be able to live with the fact that maybe someone else likes your work too and wants to use it..I'd be flattered if it were to use a graphic I made. And if you're worried about idiots massing bad things, dont.. If it pleases them to act their IQ as opposed to their ages; then it's their cup o' tea.

I think it would be stupid to have private heads. Why would Graal want your heads online if only you use them?

2k1 used to have some, but they only work on servers with a npcs

The fact that these are paid accounts leads me to believe that each person should be able to have at least 1 private head. The other heads don't matter, most of the people who made the older heads are long gone.

Please don't use the bandwidth argument either, because if there is a bandwidth problem then those old crappy heads should be deleted first. Also I don't see how many people being allowed to use the same head would lower the bandwidth. Not to mention the fact that every time new graphics are uploaded people start using them, so the fact that there are no private graphics takes up more bandwidth because people feel that they have to be able to use EVERY head. A head that isn't being used often = less badwidth. Bandwidth costs more than space.

If a person took the time to make any kind of graphics, they should be able to use at least one of them in any way they see fit.

I don't think you understand the bandwidth argument. Heads only put demands on the bandwidth when they are downloaded from the game server. That means the bandwidth hit only occurs when a person first sees a head. Regardless of if one person or a thousand are using the head, it is only downloaded once and the effect on the server is the same. Allowing private heads means that there are some heads that are only used by one person. This promotes diversity, and diversity causes bandwidth issues. If everybody uses the same head then only one head needs to be downloaded. If everybody uses a different head then each one needs to be requested from the server. This is, of course, only a problem with new users, or influxes of new heads, and even then the lag is negligible. Simply, bandwidth is not a concern in the private head debate.

Your right, I was going off of my banner because I host it on my server. I just realized that I only use more bandwidth when more people view threads with my banners.

Same here, I made head1275.png and hockeystick-shield.png and noone uses them. Heck even I don't use my shield, but maybe it'll get some use when my games arena gets uploaded.

You know what I did when I first started playing graal? I found a head nobody used at the time, which was sweet because it was head 534.gif, and just stuck with it. If someone asked what number it was I wouldn't tell them, because a lot of people are just way too lazy to go through all of the heads to look for it.
