graal 3d...

is the only cool thing I have seen from graalonline since the ratform came out, why are you working on crap like 2k2? graal3d could be MUCH cooler, with swords and chests and stuff, you know, like Zelda:Oot...

If it's so easy, you do it. =_=

The engine was the easy part, it's getting the levels together that's a pain. On oldschool Graal it's easy, editor = levels. On G3D...not nearly as simple.

Well yeah, too much work one. Also personally I like Graal2001/2002 more! I mean look at that crap, it looks nothing like Graal! Its not even the same as it used to be, I strongly disagree with the improvement on Graal 3D, I mean unless they refer to me on what to do, because I could make it own. j/k. I think it should be improved, but please, make it look like Graal...Or rename it. Plus the field of 3D games is so large, this one would fall if not very improved, very quickly, with Counter-Strike, and others like this, before making Graal3D better, make Graal2001 worse...Also Tyme was so right, creating one level on Graal3D would take ages, making a level could take ages more, there needs to be a good level designer created, and that would be a headache to create levels with it also. So improvement is definate, but improvement takes work.

I agree if Graal 2002 and Graal 3d came out at the same time, i wouldn't even download Graal 3d. I would much rather play Graal 2002

Here's what you gotta do to make a Graal3D:

Create a converter that makes terrain'd G2K2 levels into G3D levels, replacing images with predefined 3d objects - like the Dustari House, it's an image in G2K2 and a 3D model in G3D...then you're set. Though it begs the question of why bother.

Any sort of creative tiling would cause problems.

yes

the levels would be a problem to create. I have a program that can create levels like that, and it takes friggin forever! All it is is a big hastle. Every single thing is a rendered image (except 2d sprites, that are the same on all sides).

I'd much rather play a 2d game. Just because It's 3d, doesn't make it more fun.

I don't know about the new g3d, but, i played an old version of it....Is there much of a difference?

As for g2k2, the only thing that resembles 3d is the water, where your shadow drops through the transparent water. Other than that, It just looks like skewed images to me.

Not really in 2k2's case, at least when it comes to the overworld.
It'd just ahve to use the tiles as textures at the place where they're customly tiled.

It is pretty hard to configure a level editor, especially for something 3D. It would be nice if you could change heads, though. I also thought G3D was an abandoned project? Maybe not.. Btw, bitmap files are quite large compared to PNGs, and that's what the body files are.

not really, something like DOGAL2/L3 would suffice for level building

Haha sounds like the unreal tounrament 3D level editor...takes me like 2 hours to make a square room with a ramp or a weapon.....where as with Graal's 2d level editor I can make top quality levels in under an hour...I cant imagine any good playerworlds popping up on Graal 2002.

Stefan says "most people don't support 3d gfx" or whatever...yet I go on renegade...hmm only about 30,000 people have 3d things on renegade? Hmmm...only over 100,000 people have 3d things on UT? Oh...but what happened to barely anyone has 3d support? Renegade using DX8, you need a good card to work it well, which means alot of people have good ones....

I think the problem isn't with people not having it, I think the problem is Stefan hasn't made anything quality enough to attract 30,000 people. Hmm..I think thats obvious...

Point:

work on g3d!!!!! or add 3d features (.x support) to graal!!!

Omigod, Soul Blade, you mean there were 30,000 people all playing a game that needs a 3D card, and they all had 3D cards?! That must mean everybody has them, because you've certainly chosen an excellent model for your statistical analysis!!!

Most graalians have older computers...simply because their parents are too stubborn to spend money to upgrade or to replace.

It is nice, however, that Stefan tries to make Graal workable for those with older machines. But still, it would be nice if he upped the requirements a little

You must have read what I posted in a certain private forum because that is exactly the same idea I had. GMAPs just hold vector heights, I believe, so it couldn't be that hard to interpret them into an actual 3D field.

I nice thing would be just to keep the 2d graal and make the 3d graal. That way older computers can go on 2d graal and do the yippy yahoo hat thing and the people that buaght a 3d accellerator can enjoy a 3d environment. The only REAL thing stoping the other people from going to the 3d server would be ther GFX card. Just like it is the only thing stopping them from seeing lights, one of the most decorative things on graal.

I see no point in not making a 3d game. A lot of 3d games dont absolutly NEED a 3d accellerator. Take half-life for example. It is a compleat 3d world. IT doesnt need a 3d acelerator to run it. Although it make it run WAY smoother if you DO have a 3d accelerator.

Examples Kai...if there are many people who have a 3d card for Renegade, then there are alot more. More people with 3d then without.

It doesn't prove a thing. So 30,000 people have 3D cards. Maybe 3,000,000 people don't. Renegade aims at a different target audience, you can't compare user counts or anything of that nature.
