Weird Account Name

I was told there was something on this on the forums but I can't find it.

While being all happy and scripting I noticed someone pop on with the account name:

pc:9463108

Someone told me those are hackers or something?

Well iphoners(iPads(to my belief) as well) use the pc: account ID, at least the old ones did. I don't think they're available anymore.

I think it might be a staff member of some iServer using the severwarp function.

Edit: Just checked and it's most likely a guest account.

Guests (people who choose "Guest" at the login screen instead of making an account) always have an account like "pc:123123123". It's unlikely to be related to iPhone, but last I saw, iOS clients always used pc accounts as well.

i think he said once that the unidentified version will stay anyway, especially on iOs since people still have pc:# accounts and it would probably be too annoying to recover all in case its getting completely disabled. that might change with the android version as they could "force" the players right away to identify

I still despise community names. It's so annoying trying to summon or warp to people now if you want to do it by account name.

Not to mention it gets confusing and annoying when you're looking at a list of accounts all

Community names are annoying but they make sense (most account systems assign an ID of some kind and have a changeable display name). If Stefan would just give them proper support (which he still has not done), then they'd be completely acceptable and even ideal.

Simple solution that half of the playerworlds still has learnt how to do: summon them by communityname instead.

Yeah as I read these post's, as a ascripter, it's not hard to have scripts work by community name. "findplayerbycommunityname()" instead of "findplayer()".

Isn't it setup so that if the player does not have a community name it will use account name instead? And lifetime accounts too.

There's findplayer2 (which broke one of my scripts) now:

findplayer2(str) - returns object - same as findplayerbycommunityname(), finds players by account or community name

If they're a pc:account it will show their community name as guest and there are some instances where communityname is just blank. RC2 also wasn't updated to support community names which is a pretty big deal if Stefan actually expects us to use them.

Yeah would be cool if it supported community names. But I don't think he is planning on updating RC2.. I know in a Win 8 thread he said possibly fix the windows 8 bug.

RC has already been updated to support (or at least add basic support for) community names. The updated version is available for Mac and Linux, but for some reason not for Windows.

Interesting to know, hopefully we can get a windows update sometime.. even tho Eurocenter is pushing for in-game tools (that look nice but function oddly)

Creating an account in-game has been possible since v5 as far as I can remember. Not sure if v4 ever supported that.

Creating an account in-game supposedly transfer all progress on the server you were on from your pc:213435 account to your newly created graal546457 account. Atleast that happened to me when I tried it out once, I haven't tried it recently though.

Interesting, I checked it out. I thought it would be completely in-game. That links to the website

I'm pretty certain that you can do it completely in-game. Don't click the "Upgrade"-button.
  1. Click Start
  2. Invite a friend
  3. New account
  4. fill in e-mail
  5. check the "I agree" checkbox
  6. Click the "Continue"-button

Then your account is created.

Speaking of weird account names... what are limitations on account names? Such as my account is 4 characters long.. when it was created I had to ask ibonic to make it for me since you needed 5 characters. Is there also a maximum length?

As been mentioned multiple times in several threads lately, iPhone use the exact same account system as PC nowadays.

yeah but nicknames work differently on iphone then pc.. like scriptless said with his name being starred out.. and with there being no gold mode on iphone are you basically just limited to a Graal###### account? or is there actual features in iOS client that allow for community name registration is what I was more aimming the question at.

nicknames are not related to the account system at all. some parts are starred out on iPhone to prevent people faking tags and such, like 'Admin', 'Admln', 'Graal Police' and such. for iPhone there is no need at all for the Gold system as players aren't seeing each others account anyway. there is a VIP subscription up where you have the ability to buy some more things and do some more things but its not required at all. and there is no legit way to set a community name on the iServers as there is no use in that anyway as stated above.

I'm not. It probably just goes by your account name and not community name. Since my account is one of those Graal#'s...tho im kinda upset that I paid for a community name and cannot use it now. Hopefully when iZone reaches PC this will be resolved?
