Charity Shop

iPaul was massing about having a charity fundraiser for the noobs of era the other day, and it got me thinking.

This is the best way I could think to raise money for noobs as well as distribute it fairly:

There's an NPC-ran shop that sells items. The items could be hats, guns, miscellaneous fun items, etc.

The shop would take 25% of the proceeds and split the other 75% amongst everyone on the server at the time.

(another way is if the shop just takes all of the money, and gives out 75% of it's safe at the end of each week.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------
As an example:

There are 60 people online, and I buy a 30k hat from the charity shop.

This message goes out to everyone:

"[Charity Shop] everyone receives $375 from Fiberwyre_P2P's purchase."

---------------------------------------------------------------------

So there you go; rich people helping noobs and getting something back for it, as well as 25% of the proceeds being taken out of the economy all at the same time.

Shouldn't noobs work for their money? Everyone else did, unless they had a rich friend. Giving hand outs tells them they can get what they want with no work. It's not like they NEED the money.

How could you determine whats a noob? Hours, kills, event wins? What is to stop other players from making multiple accounts to reap the benefits?

based on your original post..-everyone- on the server would have some of this money?

People would just set up macro bots that moved them every 10 minutes and stay on 24 hours a day.

I find there to be an issue with this system.

This shop would have to provide something EVERYONE needs and wants, the idea of a "Charity Shop" is nice on paper, but no one is honestly going to go shopping to give money to others, it's just against human nature, people buy items for themselves to get something they want, you'd have to clearly give in to this for the shop itself to work, but that would make influencing the materialistic portion of the market in a possibly big manner (this would depend on how big the items you put up are) a possible issue, but I don't play Era very often, this could use some more clarification if you wouldn't mind inputting towards this.

I'll have to construct on this some more, but don't have the time atm to do so.

Yeah, basically what you're saying. The items in the shop would have to be desirable enough that people who buy it wouldn't feel like they're getting ripped off, even though they're donating money in the process.

Despite that being illegal and bannable, what effect do you think that will have on the entire economy?
People can only get a small fraction of the money spent at the shop, and even then there is still no net gain in the money in the economy. it basically serves to redistribute small bits of wealth at a time.

And how hard is it to see multiple accounts on the same IP, or to see who has been on for 48 hours straight?

Somewhat, yes, that is what I'm getting at, only one thing to fix though.
People are not willing to donate anything unless they feel they're doing something good, it has to have appeal, how would you get the appeal of the Era game community?

Basically this. People will see who they are getting money from.

And maybe there could be a list of the top donators, as well.

This idea is a cop out for hard work. I believe in social darwinism, where you survive or you don't based on your skill-set and your abilities. Creating a "charity-shop" will allow some people to become lazy. This will also tell some of the younger players that it is okay just to get by on peoples donations and good-will. That is why America is in some-what of a crisis with people not doing any of the work but expecting all of the benefits.

Also, the system is un-fair. You say that creating bots so people could collect money is a banable offence. Well there are some people who honestly have nothing to do. So they could play Era for hours on end (actually playing) and reap all of the benefits. While other players who have school or work are subjected to less of a pay out because they have actual lives to live. Why should people who spend their whole day on be rewarded with more things, that is just encouraging their bad habits. I think it's a nice idea, but it isn't practical nor is it helpful to anyone.

I don't think it's fair. Everyone else had to work for their money, and now your just basically handing all these new players free cash.

Clearly by hours. Any other variable would be just "nub".

Social Darwinism is un-fair.
People who play more SHOULD have more money.
It isn't impractical, and money helps everyone.
