How can they be jailed for PKing around a mining area?

Not around a mining area. If the attack a miner. Making the level that you mine in non pk would help a bit.

How about this:

For those people so concerned about rock stealing, there should be an optional "Mining Crate" that they can buy in the shop for let's say 15 gralats that you can temporarily store the rocks in.

You place it down like on the outside of the dirt and have the opportunity to claim the rocks by pushing it beside the crate and then lifting the rock. It'll then safeguard the rocks to be mined until ready to be used, and no one can get it out except for the owner. When empty, the owner of the crate can just pick up the crate so it disappears into the inventory.

It'll have a 5-10 rock limit (random since ore naturally comes out in different sizes) that can fit inside it. After 50 uses or 1 hour of idle time, the crate 'breaks down' and the rocks inside it, if any, disintegrate.

The script and implementation would be 'fairly' simple, and it'll ease some of the problems.. i'm kinda stumped for more ideas with this, so anyone care to help out?

That'd cause even more problems, people would just take the rocks someone bombed out of the wall. At least with mining you have a chance to knock the person away from the rock.

if u make the level non PK then u cant kill the person stealing your rocks.

they would have to work out if the crate is worth it

NO RULES IS THE ONLY GOOD SOLUTION OR WE COULD JUST BAN PKING ALL OVER.

All the fun in this game will be gone for some people if you can't gain anything by killing others and the mining places are the only ones where you can pk with profit. Either they pause and unstick or die. In either casse you get something. Rocks or gralats. If you are lucky you get both.

Hmm.. forget the optional part (or maybe not?), then the stealer would have to bring that rock to his/her crate. All the same, you still have that same chance to knock the person away from the rock as before.. oh well just an idea

No, the mining cart is a bad idea, it'll get abused, stick with the owner tags, oh yeah, and the smart miners (meh) have slots in chests (preferably BirdBird's cause it's close to the crafting place), so you can't get our money by PKing us
