Stop bringing back this thread. This should have been reported to the PWA. That's what we do.

Yeah, but the likelihood of servers listening to you is about even with the likelihood of all of the servers following the rules in the first place.

That is uncalled for.

Me possibly, but if "you" was referring to the PWA you're sorely misaken, however im not stupid and i recognize a childish quip trying to ruffle my feathers when i see it.

As for you Azreil - play nice.

Ah, my error for not specifying. By you, I meant you, Houdiniman.

You do unless you can prove ownership in a way that will be accepted by a court of law.

Nah, you don't need to register it to have the copyright. You only need to register the copyright if you are planning on taking legal action.

That's what I was talking about. If your work has no registered copyright, and someone steals it and you sue, you have to prove to the court that you produced the work first. In the case of music, usually one mails a physical copy (CD or tape) of the work and the musical notation (if possible) to themselves. The postmarked date is admissible as evidence in a court of law. Registering for a copyright saves you the trouble of having to do this, but it is expensive.

I wish you people would stop acting like you know so much about this, Kai already explained copyrights, trademarks and such, why do we have to go over it again.

You're the one who brought it up and started "acting like you knew so much about it", genius.

As a musician and composer, I have to know about copyrights in order to protect my intellectual property.

Tseng, I know for a fact you don't have to register a copyright, that is a patent.

Uh, dude. I never said you had to, only for court cases. Here's some info for ya, straight from the U.S. Copyright Office.:

Quote:
COPYRIGHT REGISTRATION

In general, copyright registration is a legal formality intended to make a public record of the basic facts of a particular copyright. However, registration is not a condition of copyright protection. Even though registration is not a requirement for protection, the copyright law provides several inducements or advantages to encourage copyright owners to make registration. Among these -advantages are the following:

-Registration establishes a public record of the copyright claim.

-Before an infringement suit may be filed in court, registration is necessary for works of U. S. origin.

-If made before or within 5 years of publication, registration will establish prima facie evidence in court of the validity of the copyright and of the facts stated in the certificate.

-If registration is made within 3 months after publication of the work or prior to an infringement of the work, statutory damages and attorney's fees will be available to the copyright owner in court actions. Otherwise, only an award of actual damages and profits is available to the copyright owner.

-Registration allows the owner of the copyright to record the registration with the U. S. Customs Service for protection against the importation of infringing copies. For additional information, request Publication No. 563 "How to Protect Your Intellectual Property Right," from: U.S. Customs Service, P.O. Box 7404, Washington, D.C. 20044. See the U.S. Customs Service Website at www.customs.gov for online publications.

Registration may be made at any time within the life of the copyright. Unlike the law before 1978, when a work has been registered in unpublished form, it is not necessary to make another registration when the work becomes published, although the copyright owner may register the published edition, if desired.

Well, all i'm saying is content made for this game doesn't need to be registered because GraalOnline has its one register on all content made for the playerworlds. So if someone "copyrights" certian images etc., for a playerworld, they cannot be used on another.
