I don't think anyone was asking for 3D support... just something more complex than simple hills. You can't even really do cliffs or anything. It's extremely limited in terms of flexibility. Especially when you start working with shorelines and such.

Well, if you've ever worked with terraingen, you'll see that terrain is nothing but a big wireframe mesh. So it's a little hard to make things like walls and so forth, because the lines are always at an angle.

Exactly, I mean it's hard to even try to make a river and lake. I think that's the point, though, to maybe add more complex possibilities with it.

I like the idea. Though it shouldnt only be for kingdoms. But without expanding map for classic servers etc. Setting predifined tiles for classic servers with cliffs etc

Yea but like it would give playerworlds more toys to play with, could maybe add the option so you can rotate the camera 360 degrees like on ro (in the future that is, it could be interesting) and maybe use lowpoly buildings and trees (I could help to make some of that) with like pixel textures, or just a flat plane that always face the camera with a 2d image (like trees, rocks and stuff like that) could be kewl xD

A lot of online game are in 3D.
Its also the charm of GK to be everything in 2D, its a " zelda like ".
I like GK like this.
But I agree on the fact we need something new,dongeon and monsters, or some floors in haunted houses, ...

Yea years have passed without Stefan caring about this awesome idea even tho I nagged and throwed it in his face several times.
And its not that he cant do it because I've seen him do almost everything that is on that video except for cliffs, so it feels possible.

Like developing on graal would get easier and you would get more variety of servers, like some would go like now full 2d while some could just as easily go for a more 3d look while some could go in the middle (like gk).

And then maybe in the future also make some options to the camera so you could make first person view games and third person view games (like for full 3d games)

And also if they added premade npcs (maybe globals could do that instead of whatever they do now) that you could select from a list from the editor, like baddies and stuff (as baddies are hard to make decently I've notice)

So like you could select the mushroom baddie from gk and place it on the ground and if you played the level it would attack you, and if you right clicked it in editor mode you could get a list of options like hitpoints, what it should drop (if any) and texture (sprite) if you want to use something custom instead and of course like the full script if ur pro and want to make some changes.

Just because objects are 2D does not change the fact that the terrain is 3D. Using the fact that you can't see behind a house is a horrible approach to whether or not there is 3D involved. The terrain is 3D, simple as that. It uses 3D rendering to create hills and such. It is more than capable of doing what is in that video if it were adjusted to do so.

You never said anything about the objects, we only talked about the terrain and you said that it wasn't 3d because you couldn't see it from different angles, and that it only looked 3d, then you guys told me to leave as I lacked common sense.

What I'd really like to see from Stefan is actually something slightly simpler than what Galdor is asking for. Right now we can technically do the cliffs, we just have to be a bit creative. What I'd like to see is water that is not opaque.

It would be nice if water was a blueish transparent color to where you could see sand underneath it, and have some ripples in the water with shaders.
I don't think it would be a very difficult task, it would just need a few hours of time. The result would make GK's water look so much nicer, and would actually increase the value of Graal's 3D terrain feature.

Aren't you doing something similar for GK iPhone? I've heard GK iPhone's water would be different.

On GK iPhone, I animated the water and it looked very nice, but since it was in GScript2, the iPhone client couldn't easily process so much animation. If water was done as I suggested, with shaders in the client, it would work much nicer and the result would be cooler looking.

Can you do the cliffs though? With all my messing with terrains I remember them being largely inflexible, and attempts to do the cliffs just ended up with a very stretched and ugly looking distortion in the terrain.

I think they just flatten it and use cliff tiles

Now that i have a better idea of what you are saying Galdor, that would make GK a much better server to play on, and from what i saw in the video you posted it looks like a zoom effect was used to shrink the map and landscape a bit, maybe stefan could look into how that was done and finally make flying on GK a possibility?

An editor like this would make me pay and develop a server again. The editor we have right now is clunky, and 3d Mapping would be intense. Especially because it'd be a small step in the direction of 3D gameplay as well (seeing as how Graal3D went to **** regardless of the best laid plans of the 'dev team')

While I think it would be a great update I don't see it happening anytime soon. It would basically mean remaking everythng Graal is now. I personally see this as needing years to develop and it being more visual than practical under the current develop circumstances.

Buuut! like they had a decent 3d world editor with nifty tools like hill and texture brushes ect just like on the video (it just lacked some stuff) but they threw it all away, the tools from that 3d editor could perhaps have been used to improve gks terrain. So we could make awesome playerworlds with it xD

There could be a switch in the editor to use 2d or 3d terrain, like you could go for 3d terrain and not use like any 3d objects at all expect for flat planes to display trees and stuff if you just want some perspective.... Gks terrain is kinda orthographic looking but I think it would be great if it just had a tad bit of perspective (just like warcraft 3 lawl)... like the docks and some carpets are drawn as if there was perspective but theres not
