Heya everyone,
This is really an "interesting" question, for about as long as zone exists.
Since this is my first post ever on the forums here, its going to be a rather long post. By times I may get a bit offtopic with it, I'll try some proper and readable english and I'll try to avoid mentioning names.
But there needs a few things to be separated, while you search for the unknown "X".
- Old-Zone cant be compared or mixed with New-Zone
- Strafing weapons can't be compared with dual guns
- Duel skills can't be compared with open field skills
But it could never be settled in Old-Zone days and it wont probably either at New-Zone days, as for a lot aspects playing a role in these sort of top score.
I for myself am a pretty old zone player, recently back after a "little" break, but not one of those prehistoric dinosaurs playing from the first day zone came out, so I've seen a lot players going up and down in the fictive "top player score".
As for the aspects, there is of course "the skill". I've seen some older post a few days ago, about on the forum pretty good explaining how skill can be determined. But there are also other aspects beeing taken effect on the pretty mutch fictive top player score. Here is a few examples, of what also "manipulates".
- Have a weapon, that noone else has, or only a very minor amount of players
- Beeing an player with abilitys over the normal player as staff
- Talkaktive personality on forums or ingame
- Beeing p2p or trial
- Laming and cheating or fair play
- ...
It could be a very long list, while most of it doesnt take effect on the "skill" ingame, it does on the battles on forums and afterwards. I for myself never hung around forums to "sort" things out, I'd never even read anything on this forum. The topic starter mentioned the New-Zone, but the post went back into Old-Zone, while most if not all of those players mentioned stopped to play, these afterwards battles cant be effected anymore with "skill".
But there is also aspects, that pretended skill and manipulated the top score list in time. As for this beeing usually an excuss to lose a duel, mostely common used "...I have lag..." else you would have lost, one day later it most likely was "...You have lag...." else I would have won.
Its only everyone himself who knows his real skills, while the rest is beeing a result of the reputation, so is the fictive list and votings. A player who fought in duels just anyone, be it a newcommer or a obvious skilled player, would most likely lose a lot reputation if he fell, having someone shouting "... I did beat XY in a spar, wawawoo....." while for some sort of reason he forgott to mention that he lost 10 duels straight before.
I remember "top-score" peoples, who always had a good or merely bad excuss not to spar.
As for trials another aspect would be the ingame scores, that trials couldnt approach on and the items they could only hardely afford or other goals to archive, so as the penaltys decreased hp later. I remember a lot spars, where the health was uneven and the player with the more health came out ending up with more damage taken than the player with lower health but still being the "winner". As there was no "spar room" in those days, regenaration of health over time also effected the outcome of duels and the player with the more hp at maximum could of course recover more than the player with the less maximum health.
As for the Old-Zone I'd like to mention one name, as its be Touya for beeing another trial who made himself a name with skills even at the sometimes rough penalitys for the trials. So there I happened to mention a name.
Old-Zone for me is the time I started zone, New-Zone is anything after weapons like reapers, rps, bps and magnums where introduced at "mass production". Why dont the "greats of Old-Zone" been rest in peace and remembered in a good way, rather than having them fighting a afterlife match, throwing dirt on them, without the participants beeing able to take effect on. Let them have statues on zone, mention your favorite whenever possible, talk about good ol' days.... but threat them with respect.
We dont fight over whos been more intelligent, as its beeing Albert Einstein with his theory of relativity that lets me chill stuffed peacefully on saturday nights and gives me the creeps when I think about nuclear technology, the chinese guy inventing the abacus to set the first steps to let me play computer games today but having a hard time with the electricity bill or the first person going to invent the timewarp machine to compare the guys, if the research of black holes and dark materia doesn't eat up our so loved planet... *shrug*
And let the skilled peoples of the new generation on "New-Zone" arise!
Im trough with "Old-Zone" and I might be moving on over to "New-Zone", since its merely unplayable as trial today im p2p now as I was Trial4Life on the good ol' times. One major reason, why I would like to start again from the scratch.
If i figure out how to do so, im creating a zone oldbie guild called either "Oldbies" or "ZoneOldbies". Only requierement to join is, the account was created in old days, and you made yourself a name. There wont be ranks, titels or anything, if possible there wont be even a leader.
If you'd like to join, contact me somehow ingame or on forums, you dont need to be active on zone, your glady invited even if your just chit-chat on forum, are an et/admin or playing other games.
