Heres a tip i found out myself.

Just make a new level then save it as:

start_"lettera-z"-"#".nw

then you will have a blue gmap, grab the + signs and make your own.

scratch that, i just found out it loads the gmaps from online graal2k2, i was walkng around and noticed it was g2k2

and yes, with the quotations. then save the text file in the same folder, open the levels in editor, hit M when in editor, NOT in play mode...WHAM yer gmap.
with GMAP, no you don't.

The Gmap stores all the information for the map.
