Rain drop animation

Well I wanted to have some really good animation for when rain drops hit the ground on my server. Tell me what you think...

Looks nice but I would make the splatter faster.

What zen said, but make sure you have some kind of misty ground whole it's raining. Like on GTA3/Vice city, they have the rain drops but at the same time some misty ground to give it a better feeling. Here you can add a little bit of mist to give it more realism and rainyness ^_^

Yeah I think like Ill have tileable puddle npcs that are really tranparent around different places while its raining.

the way it is now it looks like jelly just falling and squishing to the ground
the splash needs to be quicker and higher

Looks okay donald, although contrast to popular belief, water does not stay in a tear drop form unless it is on a surface, if it is falling it is actually a circular shape, I would change the rain to a circular shape if I were you, but im not. Its your call and my opinion.

Sure while it is perfectly circular, it doesn't APPEAR as such. Making it circular wouldn't make it look more real at all. If anything it should be elongated to more of a line than a tear.

It's flat on the bottom and round on the top when falling... But I would suggest just using straight lines rather than an actual raindrop shape...

Lines might be a good idea, would give the illusion of them traveling faster downwards than you are actually scripting them to move.

Yeah... It'll just look silly with actual raindrops... Plus with lines it can be a pure script... No images needed, that way you can change the angle of the rain easily (Good to show wind effects) You'll still need sprites for the actual splashing... Hmmm, I suppose you could try a scripted effect though, not sure how good it would look...

It would probably be less laggy to see the sprites in a gani using a script to put them around randomly then to have a script create the rain drops from 1 color lines.

Last I knew you're not that great at scripting... Neither am I. So rather than assuming that it would be too laggy, why not ask someone who knows that they're talking about when it comes to scripting?

I know what I'm talking about because I had it tested thanks to a friend with just the images. It was laggy, he said it would be less laggy with ganis. I assume it will be since he said it would since he is a scripter and it is what gk does for alot of things and they dont lag very much. At least not for me.

Well even I know its better to display images in ganis because of lag issues.
