I've been a long time fan of the board game (by Milton Bradley/Parker Bros/Hasbro) .. "Hero Quest".. Since acquiring my first boxed set during the game's original retail unveiling, I've absorbed three of the same set, numerous expansion packs, as well as a smattering of games designed to cash in on the hype that "Hero Quest" had started..
These days however, it's become increasingly difficult to find people to get a game going with.. then it hit me like a ton of chicken feathers.
A Graal server with the same concept in mind..
(example)
..you connect as per normal, finding yourself in a lobby area.. (hopefully with some other players..!) From there, it could be a simple matter of collectively confirming the start of the game, choosing a class, etc..
Play would mimic that of a board-game .. turn based (possibly just during combat, but more than likely all the time).. movement based on squares-per-turn.. (either randomly rolled.. or derived from a given movement rate.. of course, with the option to only move a few spaces, or pass entirely..)
The goal of this server would probably vary from group to group and person to person.. some people would probably just try to be on top of the proverbial "high score list".. while others might find it a strangely satisfying environment for a little bit of role-playing.
The levels could also take a number of forms.. either with specific tasks in mind, or simply to continue on to say, the next floor of a tower or something..
Such a beautiful cliche, the high-fantasy board-game.. ("CLIMB THE TOWER.. DESTROY BILLIONS OF GOBLINS!.. BLARGH!")
To those of you who've never played or heard of "Hero Quest" .. it probably sounds incredibly lame and/or obscure.. understandably.. but if by some odd twist of fate, there are any other hardcore fans like me out there.. maybe one of em'll pick this idea up and run with it.
