Firewalls aren't all configured to block the same ports. If the port the list server uses is blocked, that's obviously going to cause problems.
If it IS a firewall, the port that needs to be unblocked is TCP port 14922. At least that's the port it connects on for me. Oh, and if you need it for more security, the server it connects to is listserver.graalonline.com.
Btw, if your dad's computer is the one relaying the data to yours, then it's very likely that the firewall on his computer is what's filtering out anything you receive. What I mean is... if the ethernet cable from your computer is connected directly into your dad's PC rather than some other piece of hardware (router/switch), this is the problem you could be having. You'd just need to unblock that address/port on the firewall.
