Tell me a way to deal with skill disparities and I'll be happy to give it a try.

start out assuming everyone knows algebra & what the basic trig ratios are and explain things from there; if they dont know, keep the logs handy till they do :P

& angel's bot can take any little questions people dont understand about the math

Okay, so I cut my class in half at the very start. Then I go on to teach... what? It depends. Does everybody have knowledge of vectors? No? Okay, let's go down a notch and teach something that bores the higher-levels.

There are other problems too. IRC is a terrible medium for teaching mathematics (the 'little' questions you talk about would end up being huge), and the lessons just wouldn't be long enough. If a twenty-year-old slacker could teach kids maths just by talking to them for half an hour then we wouldn't even need schools.

You said earlier you were starting at scripting basics, then moving up to more advanced things.. those first days would bore the higher levels :P If you plan it out well enough, people would just know not to attend on certain days.

Another idea could be to tell people what they will need to know to do some of the more advanced stuff math-wise, and possibly give them some websites or something to learn those things from (possibly make a list before the classes even begin to give people a head start)

I didn't have the any clue how long you were planning on making the classes anyways ^_^.. I bet they'll end up being around an hour anyways ;o half an hour isnt as long as you think..

as for IRC being bad for math.. yeah, in some cases.. but not all ;o

Because scripting skill levels are more stratified, and the subjects are less extensive. The Beginner's lessons cater to those who've never scripted before, the intermediate lessons cater to those who've never used the NPC Server before (or still have stuff to learn), and the Advanced lessons are aimed at those who understand scripting but want to learn new approaches etc. Three distinct levels instead of a chaotic distribution.

Sure. They could skip the first few years, for example, while I go about teaching THE WHOLE OF MATHEMATICS.

Or maybe I have better things to do? These aren't maths classes, they're scripting classes.

I never said anything about teaching all of mathmatics.. just explaining what is going on with some of the math involved.
On another note, I never read Senkasui's post about it being 2 separate classes, I agree it shouldnt be that way too ;o

This would be useful, but I rather hone my skills in the graphics department. Sounds good though.

Update

I dropped out of Scripter School (long story, not very interesting) so, from now on, talk to Angel or Jagen if you have questions/suggestions/whatever. All those who ignore this notice and bug me about it will receive precisely one punch in each eye.

That is all.

Aww, I wanted to learn from the master. (not to say Jagen and Angel aren't skilled)

I think they are waiting until the new scripting that Kai spoke of is implemented.
