Unhappy Having problem with graal!!!!

Ok people if anyone could please help me, that would be great. Ok I am running graal on a computer with a...

Windows XP
AMD Athlon(tm)XP 2100+ Processor
1.74 Ghz
512 MB Ram
128MB GeForce4 Ti 4400 Video Card.
DirectX 9.0
(All Drivers are up-to-date)

From what I understand this stuff should run graal with no problem, but for some reason when I am playing sometime I will just be walking between levels and such and my computer screen will suddenly go blue and show some error msg about memory...and will start counting. And I have to restart every dang time this happens. This problem only happens with graal to. So could anyone help explain to me why its doing that or fix this problem. It just becoming a pain that this problem happens all the time. Oh yea and if it doesn't do the blue screen thing it just suddenly restarts my computer as I am playing.

no the ram is top of the line stuff. It only causes the problem with graal. No other programs I mess with cause the problem.

There can be memory problems when you have RAM from different producers or so. But the more common problem are the gfx drivers or sound drivers (one of the computers at the office running windows2000 crashes quite often mainly because of the sound driver). The standard drivers shipped with XP are quite bad, also sometimes new drivers have problems (e.g. the Nvidia drivers having bugs in the anit-aliasing code).

AA isn't even good for games like Graal, is it? x.x

Vincent, is it an actual blue screen? I have only had XP crash twice. Once I accidentally shut down a process that was needed for XP to run, and the other time I was trying to debug Tribes 2. Both of the times, a little warning came up and told me to save all of my open work because the computer was going to restart in 60 seconds. I have yet to see an actual BSoD for XP. ;D

No, however, the 3D terrain could benefit from it. (Which is why the bug probably doesn't effect Kingdoms ).

I lag more on my brand new computer with Windows XP, same exact internet, 512 mb of DDR Ram, Update GFX Card with Drivers and everything and I lag so bad it isn't funny.. I could play on my old comp with a built in GFX processor, 128 mb ram, with Windows ME and I would lag at all.. There is something that is messing with XP comps. When I open Graal it takes 15-20 secs to open it when it was on my ME comp it took 1-2 secs.

try running it in compatibility mode....worth a shot.

Also disable several of the background services that WinXP enables by default that you don't need.

Alright when this error happens it says it is doing a complete memory dump. Now what exactly does that mean.

Just as it sounds. Its dumping everything in memory into a file which Windows will send off to Microsoft if you allow it. It just tells them what was running at the time of the dump and so forth. Helps them find a bug in their code that they can solve with one of the millions of XP patches they release almost everyday

And yes, I was exagerating on the number of patches released. Its only 1000...erm...100...well...::runs and hides::

Anyway, it would be nice to have some kind of image filtering for showimgs that you use zoom or alpha effects on.

And someone said they can't play GK because of they use a 56k dialup? Pheh. I can and I'm on 56k dialup. Its more your processor, RAM, sound card, and GFX card that have the impact on lag. I can play GK without hardly any lag. Plays like a normal graal server except it will lag when lots of people are on screen or when there are lots of showimgs :x

No...what he witnessed is called a stop error. It happens when the kernel crashes in an NT5 based system (not sure if it applies to NT4). I believe the memory dump is for debugging purposes, but it is definitely not sending Microsoft any information. It dumps the contents of the memory into a file so you can examine what was happening when the kernel crashed.

As far as GK, it does lag connection wise from time to time because the NPC-server lags, most notably on enemies and signs. My system well exceeds the recommended requirements (see workstations thread in NGRT for specs) with a broadband connection and I still experience serverside lag from time to time.

Read above for why it happened. Your kernel crashed...Why Graal would cause your kernel to crash is a mystery. But you still didn't post the error message. I mean the COMPLETE message as it looks on the screen (including all those little numbers etc.)...The reason I need this is because I can find out exactly what happened to make it crash. Just write it on a piece of paper or something. Stefan would probably like to know this also for debugging purposes.

XP automatically restarts on BSOD by default.

Yeah and 2k and XP's BSOD only happens when there's an unrecoverable error such as a kernel crash (I think this may be the only time it happens but I'm not positive) and restarts after the memory dump is complete (I usually just leave it on partial rather than complete). It's much less forgiving than the old BSOD..hehe.

Could be a variety of things...really need a lot of information about the setups of both systems to pinpoint where the bottleneck is.

This might help:

1. Right Click on your My Computer Icon.
2. Choose Properties out of the drop down menu.
3. Go to Performance
4. Click on "Graphics..." button.
5. Switch Hardware acceleration to None.

Another thing:

1. Right Click on your My Computer Icon.
2. Choose Properties out of the drop down menu.
3. Go to Performance
4. Click on "Virtual Memory" button
5. Click on "Let Windows specify my virtual memory settings" or whatever it's called.

This only woks on Win 98/ME maybe 95 0.o So yeah...

If anything, that would hurt performance even further. Windows sucks at managing virtual memory, and turning off hardward acceleration is just going to prevent the computer from using the features of the video card. It may help with 2D apps, but directx and opengl etc. would have problems, if they worked at all.
