Problem with this is if there is no limit then people will pay money to get there playerworld up. Yet it could suck and draw like no players. And if you got like 30 some playerworlds up, it uses alot of server %usage, and servers will start lagging alot more.

Problem with a limit is you get a limit of say, 10 servers, but them 10 could draw a small amount of players and other playerworlds won't have a chance to get up.

i mean, with charging for servers now, the owner is basically paying for that server space... if he waists it, that's his problem, but at least they're giving something back to graal

besides, what's the harm in having so many servers? people might start experimenting with new ideas and such

As for the serverlist, this is my personal opinion. If i'm paying money each month to Graal for my playerworld i want it on the server list. I just had an inspiration. We have gold and classic, we could just add a "payed worlds" type tab in the server selection screen. I'd certainly settle for that. For that guy that wanted competition between worlds, the payed worlds could compete for top of their list.

Nem, can you provide a ballpark, off the record estimate for how much they'd want to charge? I saw $20 USD a month up there and multiplied by 12, I would not pay $240 a year for a Graal server... Personally, i would want to keep it at most somewhere under $50 a year... I don't know how greedy they're going to be about this paying for worlds thing... Maybe they could charge you more based on size... I think a world having 10 levels for really lag free sparring (my idea ) shouldn't have to pay as much a month as a server with 5000 levels taking up 500 times the space on the server, not to mention npcs, graphics, etc...

$50 a year is not a reasonable amount considering the extra work, HD space, bandwidth and upkeep management of the Servers for the *******s, taking a guess it will be in $25 to $75 a Month range to make it anywhere profitable for Graal. You can't host any game of any quality on the net for such a menial amount. This remember is not being done for you players convenience of wanting a PW up, it is being done to turn a profit for Graal for salaries, upgrades and future development of Graal. This takes money; nothing is cheap so you guys need to realize it is not being done so the average 16 year old can afford to do this. Also keep in mind you will share in the subscription money if players designate some of his/her upgrade to your server. This will offset your cost of the server and if enough do then even make it cost free for you to run. As I understand it, this will be done as some sort of online bank account, real money doesn’t exchange hands, your account is just credited a certain amount that players want to go to that PW.

note to ETD: Unixmad has 20 servers now, not all are used for Graal.

k i didn't read most of this thread but i have 2 questions:

1. Will the servers that are already up on the playerlist have to start paying too? and servers that passed reviews but haven't been put up yet, will they need to pay?

2. Does the player have to donate money or whatever to help pay for the server if they like it or is that just optional?

1.) Yes to ones that are up. They passed ones may get up before this is introduced and so no wont have to pay striaght away, but will have to.

2.) Im sure you could donate some money towards it. Anyway Nem said there will be goals and things to reduce the price, maybe if you reach them all you wont have to pay at all.

Not all will pay some as Nem put it will be "Free Servers" and "some will be pay" , even the ones online now. Not all the details are availible yet so we will have to wait and see what the rest of the details are.

I know from past experience, it's kind've hard to get help from one of the Global Admins -- when theres a problem with the server or something. But if your a paying costumer, would you get any advantages? Like extra support or whatever... O_o.

i dont think this will work (at least work to improve pw quality) hell itll deplete quality

any rich mofo can get a pw....

if we cant get good pw's up when they are FREE, making them cost money will only make the odds of having a good one up lower and lower we will have 300 frolics and 421 bravos and 126 Shaded Legends (i lub you archangel) but hey.. what do i know... ive only been here for 3+ years...

Hmm, I want to make a playerworld, and I have a friend who doesn't have a graal account who would be interested too. I don't think he's going to get an account anytime soon - so is there any way for him to play/go/work on my server? As RC? Any way at all? Well, except for getting an account...

I dunno about this increasing PW quality... but one GOOD thing i see from this, is that i think it will motivate people to do ORIGIONAL things...

maybe pay for a few months, and test a new concept.... if people can play the test server, and like the new idea, they can expand it into a full server...

which would stop all these new servers from looking alike

they can improve the quality of the game all they want but if the players dont improve the quality of the stuff they make whats the point?

Its obvious that it has remained as such for quite some time. The only way to improve is to force it. Yeah, you'll turn players away but in the long run you'll probably draw in more than half of what leaves. Heck I think Graal going p2p has brought in more players than what it had before. That is one method of forcing things to progress onward. Obviously the other way to force positive progression is to put in place tougher standards and adhere to them without faltering (much :]).

Im going to buy a server and get people to submit their PW to me and I'll review them and if they're good I'll put it on my server and they'll be co-owner

These people cant wait for a review and I'll give them 2 options.
1.give me the PW and be co owner
2.Submit it to PW admin and if it fails dont crawl back to me.

then they'll come to me and give it to me.I'll take up all thier cool stuff and get like 10 other PW and make it 1 with super NPC and towns and then we'll have like 1000 players and we'll keep stealing and then a year later I'll run out of money and then Quit but Ill still have all the files and resubmit it and it'll pass and then I'll continue forever and win gahhahahaha jk

Why introduce a middle man? There is no need to do this:

Manager/Owner -> You -> Nemesis/PWA

When you could just do:

Manager/Owner -> Nemesis/PWA

Introducing you will just make it take more time, Its a half decent idea for people who cant pay for it, but I honestly dont see why you dont work for a Manager position instead of getting one handed to you on a plate, and then the people who worked hard would only be Co-Manager!

I think this is a great idea. When it comes out I plan on buying a server. I have no intention of being productive or working on an upcomming server. I intend to upload my stockpile of levels I have on my hard drive that I've made over the years. As well as a place where some close friends can work on scripts and just generally work on projects and skills. Basically all I plan on doing is a dev server in which I work with no goal in mind other than the pure joy of making levels and scripts or any other graal related job I feel inclined to do and the joy of not having it open to the public so I can listen to day after day of Can I b ur friend? Can I be et admin, omg u r *** I hate u! Ok back to my semi-quitting graal until this is released. 8)
